Book Description

'All right, for them that likes laughing' - the first and ultimate book of northern wit and wisdom, from the bestselling author of Great British Wit and with a foreword by Stuart Maconie

Product Description

Ey up, it's not only footie, pints and pies that are better up north - the humour also takes some beating. Whether it's comics like Peter Kay, Les Dawson and Victoria Wood, telly shows like Corrie and Open All Hours, or writers like Alan Bennett and Keith Waterhouse, the funniest and best-loved invariably hail from the land of perpetual drizzle (another thing they do better).

This grand collection of northern wit is packed with these favourites and more. Likely lads and lippy lasses cast a wry eye on subjects close to the heart of every northerner, including - brass, grub, graft, courting, cricket, tittle-tattle and t'weather - adding up to a feast of northern hilarity.

This is a highly enjoyable little gem of a book guaranteed to have you laughing at the wit and wisom of Northerners! It has made me seek out the work of some of the people mentioned in here and reminds us all of the humour and character that so defines the North of England.

A Reet Laugh! 11 Mar 2010
By Polly Potter VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Good loo book, to be dipped into at regular intervals! I laughed out loud at many of the quotes, which range from early "Corrie" scripts to parliamentary exchanges. What it did do is remind me how much I had enjoyed the Peter Tinniswood books which were adapted for BBC TV in the 70's. I never watched the series, being too busy donning loons and catching the bus to Wigan Casino & Bolton Institute in those glory days ... but "Uncle Mort" is quoted a lot in this book, and I have now bought the complete collection of "I Didn't Know You Cared" on DVD. I'll pass this book onto my son who revels in his "Token Northerner" status working in central London. I am sure he will add many of the phrases recorded in its pages to his repertoire!
