Product Description

Synopsis

The Kabbalah is the classical expression of Jewish mysticism, and the third of the great literatures in that faith, next in importance to the Bible and the Talmud. It was handed down orally by the sages for over a thousand years before being committed to writing. The present selection from Sefer ha-Zohar, The Book of Splendor, dates from about 1300 in Spain. Its stirring theme is the nature of God before the Creation, and of the soul of man after it. Unorthodox in form, daring in symbolism, the Kabbalah is essentially a philosophy of ethics, of man's union with the Divine in thoughts of wisdom and deeds of goodness.

By Timothy Dougal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is an abridgement of an (I surmize) 19th century translation of the Zohar, none of which is mentioned in the introduction. S.L. Macgregor Mathers seems not to have comprehended his text very well, had a predilection for jargon (i.e. macro- and micro-prosopus, and arcanum instead of English words) and pseudo-archaic language. The Zohar can be mystifying enough if translated clearly. This is a mystification of mystification.
