Book Description

“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
― Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

Meet little Mole, willful Ratty, Badger the perennial bachelor, and petulant Toad. In the almost one hundred years since their first appearance in 1908, they've become emblematic archetypes of eccentricity, folly, and friendship. And their misadventures-in gypsy caravans, stolen sports cars, and their Wild Wood-continue to capture readers' imaginations and warm their hearts long after they grow up. Begun as a series of letters from Kenneth Grahame to his son, The Wind in the Willows is a timeless tale of animal cunning and human camaraderie.

If your children (or you, yes, you) have never read the original “Wind in the Willows,” you owe it to yourself to indulge yourselves in a most delightful treat. This Kindle edition includes illustrations by classic illustrations by Paul Bransom and a modern one by Inga Moore. In fact, it also features a free audiobook to play along!

“All this he saw, for one moment breathless and intense, vivid on the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wondered.”
― Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

Robotic style of narration diminished the feel of this lovely story. My 9 year old daughter did not find this story inspiring at all. A great shame

2.0 out of 5 stars Great story; good idea (ebook & audiobook); horrendous packaging 7 May 2015

A classic story, with the convenience of an ebook.

The audiobook that accompanies the ebook is taken from, and is performed by a variety of volunteers, including Peter Yearsley, who I consider the best reader at Librivox.

The story gets 4 stars; however, the Kindle audiobook interface for iPhone is abysmal, taking my rating down to a 2. You can listen to the audiobook only if the Kindle app is open, making it impossible to listen to the book either while using your phone's GPS or while reading the ebook/looking at its pictures. Why Amazon doesn't make it possible to listen to the audiobook via the Audible app, which is also Amazon-owned but doesn't have the above-mentioned shortcomings, is a mystery and a terrible disappointment.

My recommendation: Buy one of the Kindle versions of this story for $.99, then get the Librivox version for free, so you have the option of listening and while reading or while driving. If you do buy a different Kindle version, make sure you choose an illustrated edition, since some of them don't include the illustrations that add so much to the story!
