thought this book was just as good as any of the other joy fielding books and i've read almost all of them, she knows how to grip the reader, i find it difficult to put her books down. Although the characters in this book seem a little unsavoury this is a work of fiction and people very like these characters do actually exist (soldiers effected by war, controlling spouses) which makes it realistic and therefore gripping.

I had already bought this and then saw the reviews so wasn't looking forward to reading it but I have to say I quite enjoyed it. It wasn't as good as her books like See Jane Run and Mad River Road but I can't say that I was ever bored whilst I was reading it. Yes I agree some of the characters were horrible, but that was what the story was about. Anyway can't say I loved it but definitely don't think it was that terrible.

I chose this book quite randomly in a shop, not knowing the author but finding the synopsis promising.
The first chapter hooked me well enough to keep me reading the book until the end. However, the male characters were so caricatured that it was almost laughable (from a male point of view at least). Men in this book are all either abusive to women (there are 4 non-related rapists in the storyline), or they are completely irresponsible. When reading, I couldn't get rid of the feeling that the author had a grudge against men. I felt a bit insulted in some way.
I doubt I'll ever be reading another book from Joy Fielding.
