This is an easy to read novel about Kate Forrest, who for 15 years had been doing everything for her husband and family, and working at a high-powered job. One day, she decides she has had enough, and rather than returning to her office after her lunchbreak, she hails a taxi which she asks to take her to Heathrow Airport, where she boards a plane for Rome.
The story is told through a variety of voices: Kate herself, husband Ned, teenagers Guy and Agness, and her mother, Eleanor. I thought this approach worked quite well as it allowed the author to explore different perspectives of what had been going on within the Forrest family.
Like all families, this one has lots going on, and it becomes quite a page-turner as you become curious about how the situation will be resolved. Particularly towards the end, it's a real emotional roller-coaster, with a few of the plot developments perhaps a little bit unlikely. This is an undemanding book which was quick to read and enjoyable, and which reflects upon the stresses and strains within modern families.
