If you were born on 1 April what would your star sign be? During which war did Anne Frank write her diary living in the attic of a house in Amsterdam? For the answers check out The Whiz Quiz Book. This quiz book was specially compiled by members of the National Parents Council (NPC) to meet persistent demands from parents of primary-school children. It is a unique project in which teachers, children and parents worked together with the needs of Irish children in mind. Containing questions on a wide range of subjects sport, music, history, etc. the book is laid out in game format, with each quiz containing ten rounds, each round consisting of eight questions. All rounds have a good mix of questions so that a round or a quiz can be played, offering scope and variety for parents, teachers and children to use free time gainfully and enjoyably.

I looked for quite a while for a quizz book that would be sutable for ages 10-11, luckily I found it with this one. A good selection of general knowledge and local infulences.

The general knowledge questions are pretty fair for bright and enthusiastic 9-10 year olds ... but there is a large number of very specialised Irish history and mythology questions which are completely unfathomable to the average British family. So, a good book to have in the car on a long journey (we used it travelling to the South of France) but you will need to be able to ask a few questions of your own too!

This was a chistmas present, among many others, for a 10-11 year old who enjoys quizzes. Unfortunately, the first question she read out to our family gathering stumped everybody, so ... quickly on to the next present!

A real dumbo didn't think the e book version through
