Giraffe smiles as he glances back at his passengers on his colorful bus as they drive through the jungle. A wide-eyed bush baby looks out the window in the back, but a little monkey thinks it's more fun to peek through it upside down. "The lion on the bus goes / Roar, roar, roar, Roar, roar, roar, / Roar, roar, roar. / The Lion on the bus goes / Roar, roar, roar, / All day long!" The crocodile snaps, the flamingo flaps, and the zebra chomps on the grass in his basket.
It looks like they will have a fun day ahead of them as the wheels go round and round as they head to the pond. Other little critters have hitched a ride on the bus. You can see the little caterpillars as they walk along the seat in back of the zebra and several little colorful butterflies. Someone is hiding though. "The chameleon on the bus plays / Hide-and-seek, / Hide-and-seek, hide-and-seek. / The chameleon on the bus plays / Hide-and-seek, / All day long!" Hey, are we almost there?
This is an adorable rendition of a classic children's folk song, "Wheels on the Bus." A field trip wouldn't be a field trip if no one broke out in song with this traditional classic. Jane Cabrera has come up with a new twist with her sing along menagerie of jungle animals. The animals don't miss a beat as they head to their destination. The artwork is colorful, animated, and adds to the story as much as the verse does with its tremendous appeal. No doubt most of us have this song floating around in our heads, but the simple two chord song is in the back of the book for those who want to add a musical accompaniment to the verse.
