Book Description

The autobiography of the highly acclaimed author of On Death and Dying, as she faces her own imminent death.

Product Description

Dr Elisabeth Kübler-Ross shot to world fame in 1969 upon publication of her seminal work, On Death and Dying. Since then, through her many books as well as her years working with terminally ill children, AIDS patients and the elderly, she has brought comfort and understanding to millions coping with their own deaths or the death of a loved one. Now, after a series of strokes she finds herself, aged seventy, confronted with her own death. In The Wheel of Life, her ultimate book and much-anticipated autobiography, she offers a work that is as inspiring, insightful and as incendiary as anything she has written in the past. Her memoir traces the events that shaped her intellectually and spiritually, and inevitably led her to explain her ultimate truth – that death does not exist but is a transformation. We see how her birth in Switzerland as the second of triplet girls and her conventional, though happy, childhood formed the base from which her outspoken and confident views sprang. Then, from her work as a young woman in war-ravaged Poland to her pioneering counselling of the terminally ill, her legendary seminars on death and dying at the University of Chicago and her eye-opening discussions with people who had been revived after death, we learn how each experience provided her with a new piece of the puzzle. Dr Kübler-Ross’s affirmation of life after death, already expressed in lectures and interviews, has sent shock waves through the medical and New Age communities alike. This final statement will no doubt ignite further controversy and debate. The Wheel of Life is an extraordinary, thought-provoking memoir of an exceptional woman. Like her previous revolutionary works, it will captivate and enlighten readers as an inspiring portrait of life and living.

Funny old thing, this thing called Life. What's it all about? Why are we here? Is there really life after death? There must be surely......... I found The Wheel of Life very moving and "down to earth". Having lost close members of family myself, I identified with Elisabeth Kubler Ross's experiences and her account of life's cycle. At last I'm as sure as any of us can be that my questions have been answered. Even the most cyncial of us mortals would take some comfort from reading it.

As I turned the last page and finally put the book down I felt a great sense of calm and assurity.

This book is an eye opener to those of us who already have the belief that people should be 'cared for' with the human touch when they are dying. This wonderful woman had so much insight into the concept that 'touch' is SO important and not 'fear' when a person is terminally ill, and actually have something to look forward to instead of dreading. She also makes the person feel that they should LIVE until they DIE, which is vital to all concerned. She also emphasises the point of being honest with the patient or friend, and, especially children. Having nursed dying children myself, I know that they KNOW they are dying and accept that with the peace that Elisabeth Kubler-Ross describes so very well in this wonderful book. Buy it for yourself, it will give you and yours peace of mind in the face of death, the last taboo.

After reading this book I felt a compelling need to fill every moment of my life with new and loving experiences. Whilst reading this book I found I experienced so many different emotions. I smiled and I cried but most of all I felt a warm sense of understanding of a subject which I had previously felt very uncomfortable with.....death.
