He played with Funkadelic. He played with the Ohio Players. On his solo albums he played most of the instruments himself, and this album (culled from the three Junie released on Detroit's Westbound label) has a suitably high funk quotient! Some of the later tracks on the album seem a little repetitive and thin, but 'Walt's third trip', 'Junie' and 'Tightrope' stand out as classics.

Yes, the Main Man, late of The Ohio Players,he writes all the songs, sings all the songs, plays most of the instruments on the songs....a lot of the material on this CD is taken from the criminally under-appreciated "When We Do" album.Well, I obviously love the man, so why not a top rating?
The three albums utilised for this CD began with a "Junie" track, a Hymn to Hymself, and to put them all together here (at the expense, for example, of the ethereally beautiful "You and You")falls a bit flat.
And "The Johnny Carson Samba"? Oh, come on!
Buy it for "Loving Arms" and The Man's incomparable voice.

The missing link !!! 15 May 2006

Format: Audio CD
To some, you say Detroit, and behold, the image of the American auto industry is conjured up - - to others MOTOWN. But to me, a small underground funk label called WESTBOUND - - with its swurvy psychadelic blue label, that introduced a funkier incarnation of the Ohio Players to the world as well as a pre-disco "acid rock" meets "black rock" version of FUNKADELIC. And the missing link between the two - - JUNIE - - multi-keyboardist for the Ohio Players, who jumped shipped when the group went over to Polydor went "smooth and funky" and hit paydirt with SKIN TIGHT. JUNIE however didn't fall into obscurity - - he joined the P-Funk organisation - - however, during the bald chick Ohio Players era, he recorded a couple of great (and ultra obscure) albums... one called JUNIE, WHEN WE DO - - The Ohio Player's sound in that era was clearly under HIS influence (not Sugar's) and not surprisingly this album does sound like early Ohio Players (circa PAIN, PLEASURE, CLIMAX, etc.) - - only a bit more ambitious (including pre-disco era strings and all - - not just ARPs!)

Though Bernie Worell and Billy Preston would be the guy's best remembered as quintessential funk keyoardists... give a listen to this album and you will experience some great funk that you're going to wonder how you missed all these years - - and for more Junie at his best, check out P-Funk's MOTOR BOOTY AFFAIR !

"JUNIE' Where are you Man? 13 Jan 2010

Sometimes I feel like Jack Nicholson In the First Batman movie when he says, " I was there I saw it with my own eyes". In my case I saw and heard it, with my own ears.

Let me let you in on a little secret. Back"N"the day there were two really two fantastically underrated artists they both did everything like any true great artists, and went under the radar until they were gone. One was Steve "The Invade" Arrington the other was Walter "JUNIE" Morrison. Both cats have unbelievable talent.

Most know about "The Invade" he played and sang for Slave. Walter played for the Ohio Players if yah'll don't know this please write to for an education in what it means to be a Funk Master or Soul Master. To be a master you have to go beyond the veil of commercially cool and accepted. This includes writting, arranging, vocals, instrumental talent, and above all the ability to adlib "Live" whether it 10:00 Pm or 3:00 Am.

Junie is so out there wonderfully talented, it is amazing. The fact that there is only one review for this cat and his creative "Genius" is ridiculous. In some circles it has been said that if "Junie" was not in the band "The Ohio PLayers", they would have been stuck in the blues category permanetly. Now, nothing is wrong with that but, There would have been no "Funky Worm to inspire Kool and the Gangs "Funky Granny", No "Johnny Carson Samba" to inspire George Duke. Why do you think George Clinton Grabbed him after heariing'Freeze, and "When we Do"? Check out his guitar work on "Spirit" a tribute to Jimi Hendrix.

I'm telling you, your ears are in for a treat if you like uncommercialized music. If You knew Junie like I know Junie this would have already been in your classic early funk catalog. "Enough Said? Holla!!! If you feel me.

Good Funk!! 4 Jan 2011

As many already know Junie was with the Ohio Players, left and joined P-Funk. This collection is good, although my only problem with the tracks are they are too short. Most of these tracks are recorded in that Ohio Players format needing 3-4 minutes to build, most of these tracks are 2-3 minutes which are fine for a 45'single,but does'nt do justice to these tracks, beside the song lenghts it's a great release.
