Product Description

The complete fourth series of the acclaimed political TV drama series. The re-election campaign for President Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen) is underway in the two-part episode '20 Hours in America'. In 'College Kids', Bartlet decides he needs legal help after Qumar declares war on Israel. 'The Red Mass' sees Leo (John Spencer) discreetly meeting the Israeli Foreign Minister to discuss mutual strategies. 'Debate Camp' sees Bartlet preparing for the crucial upcoming debates while on a weekend retreat. In 'Game On', Bartlet makes mincemeat of his Republican rival, Governor Robert Ritchie (James Brolin) in their debate. The votes are being counted in 'Election Night', as the Presidential staff eagerly anticipate the outcome. In 'Process Stories', the White House staff celebrate Bartlet's win. 'Swiss Diplomacy' sees Bartlet in a dilemma when the Iranian Ayatollah requests that his son be flown to the US for life-saving heart surgery. In 'Arctic Radar', Sam (Rob Lowe) heads out to California to begin his election campaign. A few unexpected Christmas visitors turn up at the White House in 'Holy Night'. 'Guns Not Butter' sees the staff fighting a losing battle on a foreign aid vote in the Senate. In 'The Long Goodbye', CJ (Allison Janney) reluctantly returns to Dayton to speak at her high school reunion. Preparations for the Presidential inauguration are underway in the two-parter 'Inauguration'. In 'The California 47th', Bartlet decides to get tough in order to end the genocide in Kundu. In 'Red Haven's on Fire', Bartlet waits for the results of the military strike in Africa. 'Privateers' sees Abbey (Stockard Channing) upset by an anti-abortion provision attached to a foreign aid bill proposed by Bartlet. In 'Angel Maintenance', tensions in Air Force One grow as there are concerns that an aircraft has been tampered with. 'Evidence of Things Not Seen' finds the White House on lockdown after a street gunman fires three shots into the West Wing. In 'Life on Mars', Joe Quincy (Matthew Perry) pieces together three press leaks and uncovers a scandal that forces Hoynes (Tim Matheson) to resign - all on his first day in the job. 'Commencement' sees the US on high alert after some suspected terrorists go missing. In the season finale, '25', Bartlet invokes the 25th amendment after Zoey (Elizabeth Moss) is kidnapped by Qumari terrorists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 28 Aug 2005
Format:DVD
This fourth and last season for creator, Aaron Sorkin is certainly the best of the series. Every episode has you glued to your television. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to watch the last two episodes back to back. You haven't seen intense drama so perfectly crafted (especially the last ten minutes of the second to last episode) untill you've seen this. You'll be so stiff with concern, almost to the state of shock, before you realize the bitter taste of adrenalin in your own mouth. Sorkin, the director, and the actors (brilliant, every one) have you sympathizing with them so much, you'll think you're a part of it all. That's what drama is supposed to do. You'll want to watch it over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 4th great series 4 Nov 2004
Format:DVD
(No spoilers in review)I cannot say this is the best series of the West Wing. The first series is the best, but this sure is close. I've seen series 1, 2, 3 and 4 - All are unbelievably great. This is better than series 3, it seems more focused and has some great story ideas. All the characters are up to their usual great standards and with some new ones added.

The climax to the series, however, is possibly the best piece of television I have ever seen. Any fan of the West Wing will recognise "2 Cathedrals" from series 2 as a legendary episode - the final episode of series 4 "25", surpasses that.

Right from episode one this series delivers the goods and it carries on all the way through. One or two episodes can't be considered brilliant, but there are certainly no bad episodes. Special mention goes to the episodes "Game On", "Evidence of things not seen", "Commencement", "25", "Inauguration part 1&2" (2 especially) and "The California 47th" - But as earlier stated, there are no bad episdoes.

I cannot wait until series 5 comes out. Once you watch series 4 you will be thinking that exact same thing as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best series yet...........Oh yes ! 3 Oct 2004
Format:DVD
Okay, so many West Wing fans felt that the third series dropped off the pace a little compared to the other two that preceded it. Some fans were also worried about the exit of one of the shows key characters Sam (Rob Lowe) in this fourth season and while I did have my reservations about the change in true WW style it's done brilliantly. His replacement Will Bailey (Joshua Malina) is just as good as Sam and possibly could even prove to be better than his predecessor.
As the usual the script is first rate. The writers have the canny knack of being able to blend intelligent and engaging scripts but pepper it with some incredibly funny dialogue and situations. Martin Sheen as usual has all the best lines and witty comebacks. However the opening couple of episodes which focus on Josh, Toby and Donna trying to get back to the White House after missing the motorcade is hilarious and raises some of the best laughs of the series.

This is definitely my favourite series of the West Wing so far. Looking over all the 23 episodes I can't find a single one that I didn't enjoy everyone.

Exciting events that occur in this series include; Sam leaving to take up the running of the California's 47th district campaign, the president facing repercussions over the Shareef's assassination,Toby's ex wife becoming pregnant with Toby's twins, President Bartlett's hiring of a new secretary (the brilliant Lili Tomlin),Charlie bidding to win back Zoey's love and the absolutely awesome and climatic last episode. If the last episode of Series 3 left you disappointed, this one won't.

Once again the West Wing proves itself to be the best American drama series around at the moment. The UK has nothing on television which can touch any drama the yanks have made. If you have the other 3 series on DVD, please don't hesitate to buy this especially if you didn't enjoy the 3rd season as much as the others.

THIS IS THE BEST SERIES OF THE WEST WING SO FAR !
