British romantic comedy starring Rufus Hound and Robert Webb. Raif (Hound), an endearingly shambolic buffoon with a questionable sense of humour, is asked to be best man at the wedding of his brother, Tim (Robert Webb), to the socially aspirant Saskia (Lucy Punch). His gift to the happy couple, he decides, will be a video of their wedding - but little does he realise he will capture such monstrosities of consumerism and social snobbery as are effected by the coiffured, manicured Cheshire set to which Saskia - and now, it seems, Raif's once-bohemian and now unrecognisable brother - belong.

Lucy Punch, Miriam Margolyes

British comedies are hit and miss to say the least. My expectations were decidedly low for this one. I love Peep Show and will watch pretty much anything with Robert Webb (or David Mitchell) in it. However, when I watched `Confetti' (another Brit-com with Robert Webb in it) I was left severely disappointed that even he couldn't elevate it out of the doldrums.
The Wedding Video is, as you can probably guess, a `film' made in the deliberately documentary style of the first person. Rufus Hound plays `Raif' the long lost brother who returns to England when his brother, Tim (Robert Webb) is getting married.

Raif's `special' gift is a wedding video, charting the build up to the happy day - think `Blair Witch, but with witches is posh hats from Cheshire.'

The first thing I thought was how much Rufus Hound comes across as a cross between Simon Pegg and Ricky Gervais. His character is only one step away from being pretty damn annoying. However, in my (slightly biased) opinion, it's Robert Webb's character who saves it, as he doesn't suffer his annoying brother too gladly and frequently slaps him down when need be.

As you might imagine, the build up to the wedding goes about as smoothly as the wedding itself. There are a whole string of unfortunate and cringe-worthy events, captured on camera for our viewing pleasure.

The Wedding Video hasn't been that well received by people. I don't know what they were expecting. Granted it's hardly comedy gold, destined to become a future classic, but I found it certainly watchable enough for an hour and a half. There are a few good gags and the characters are actually quite amusing, especially the bride's mum who's totally obsessed with `outdoing' her friends when it comes to her daughter's big day.

This film had me in stitches but it is very dry. First thing to remember is the film is meant to be a home movie, so cinematography reflects this and is done very well.
Secondly, the humour is very british and I have read some american reviews on websites .... they sometimes simply dont get it.
The film makes fun of the snobbery of the newly rich mother in law and the whole over elaboration of the wedding ceremony.
I loved this film, its british comedy at its best whilst elements actually pull at the heart strings. This film wont be everyones cup of tea, and you have to understand the humour .... but if you do get the humour, you will love it.

We saw this film sometime ago at the cinema and enjoyed it enough to add it to our Christmas list. It stood the test of time and on second viewing was just as amusing and entertaining as the first time round.

I have just finished watching The Wedding Video! I found it really funny! I liked Lucy Punch, she is always funny & the actress who played her neurotic mother. But, really, everyone was good in their roles. As armchair critics, it is very easy for us to pass judgement. But just think - could you write a funny script? I couldn't - it would be so hard! I didn't get bored & had a good chuckle. I would recommend this film.

Bought this as I like Rufus Hound and thought it would be really funny, how wrong I was! The best part of the film was the last 5 - 10 minutes! would not recommend.
