If you are a designer who knows HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, you can easily learn how to make native iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps—and distribute them worldwide via the App Store.

When combined with an Objective-C framework, web standards can be used to format and style content for iOS, using native controls and behaviors for an authentic Apple user experience.

The Web Designer’s Guide to iOS Apps shows how to create apps using NimbleKit, the Objective-C framework featured on the Apple Development Tools web site. With it you’ll learn how to:
  • Download and install the free software for creating iOS apps
  • Use Xcode to manage project assets, test apps, and package binary files
  • Implement standard iOS elements and behaviors for familiar Apple mobile user experiences
  • Enhance your app designs with HTML5 and CSS3
  • Build a foundation for designing web apps that can be delivered to other smartphones and mobile devices

5.0 out of 5 stars Native Apps Without Learning Objective-C. 20 Jan 2011
By John M. Nichols - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are a web designer/developer, you know how important it is to move into the mobile market. With the help of this book, you can now take your web app and make it native. With HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and NimbleKit you are on your way to becoming the next big thing in the App Store. I totally recommend this book if you want to make iPhone apps without learning Objective-C.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and clearly written 14 Dec 2010
By PJ Rader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have not read every page of Kris Layon's new and most timely book on developing iPhone aps but several things impress me at this point.
First, the writing is very clear and accessible. The purpose of this book is modest but thoroughly explored and this is reflected in the writing style. He approaches his topic with a genuine desire to share what has worked well for him and what, in turn, could work very well for anyone who has the desire to explore this arena -- for fun, challenge, or maybe even profit.
Another aspect of the book that makes it more enjoyable than your average manual is the author's quiet sense of humor. It comes through in many small ways, nothing LOL, more the kind of off-hand, casual kind of remarks that give you insight into this author's personality--and how often do you find THAT in a book of this type?
I would highly recommend this book to anyone with the knowledge base and the interest in this kind of tech development work -- it's definitely the only manual you'll need to bring that clever idea for an ap into reality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for non- programmers 3 May 2011
By Magda - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought this was an excellent walkthrough of the development process from someone who has obviously been there. This is primarily directed to designers and not programmers and is definitely not for someone who wants to write code natively.

Well written for those of us with some html coding experience. It definitely helped demystify the process from start to deployment.
