Review

"The powerful, illuminating images will ignite curiosity and inspire awe over the magnificent connections that make up the human body."--"Booklist, "boxed review

"The wonder that is David Macaulay is at it again . . . His text is irreverent . . . His drawing of a hand pulling the left eye out of its socket is just gross enough to engage young readers into a description of seeing . . . The work of this Caldecott medal winner and recipient of the McArthur grant is always a must-have in any library."--"VOYA "(5Q4P), highlighted review

"In this highly detailed encyclopedic volume of every part of our bodies, every system of the body is explained and illustrated in very kid-friendly lingo and art. Fascinating and well worth the price tag."--"Winston Salem Journal"

"To his many fans, David Macaulay is nothing less than America's Explainer-in-Chief"--the Providence Journal

..".teems with double-page spreads that blend scientific accuracy with Macaulay's trademark whimsy." -- Seattl

Humans, the manual 29 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover
Whatever your age, whoever you are, this book shows and tells you how your body moves and works. Fascinating, detailed drawings explain graphically while short, lucid sentences add detail and attribute the biological vocabulary. We gave this book to our grandson for his 9th birthday. It enthralled us (in our 60s); his 6 year-old brother loves it and he and his parents refer to it and browse through it again and again.
WONDERFUL!

This is a masterpiece from David Macauley. He has taken the winning formula from The Way Things Work and applied it to the workings of the human body. The book begins with the atoms and molecules that make up everything and the detailled workings of our cells. Then it covers the mechanics of our organs, muscles and skin (even the intter workings of the brain). It covers what happens when certian illnesses happen and affect us (including cancer and AIDS). It ends with the process of "making babies" with a visual conclusion. It also ends with an appendix (literally). An excellent follow-up of The Way Things Work.

I used many other books as well, but I obtained my fundamental overview of human anatomy from this wonderful book in order to learn the systems of the body and pass the big Australian medical exam (GAMSAT). Highly recommended.
