More About the Author

I was a competitor, not a fighter. A rescuer, not a warrior.

But I got a lot from both and enjoy writing about those experiences, good and bad.

Next project is a Knockdown coaching book.

Then some Fire & Rescue stories, where out of respect for the victims I will portray 'examples' of rescue work rather than write about specific incidents.

Thank you for your support.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Page Turner 5 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Soon as I found out that this was available, I downloaded it to my kindle and started to read it right away! Only put the kindle down for 5 mins to make a cuppa and then picked it up to continue the read to the end! A well written piece by an experience knockdown fighter and equally a great instructor!

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Riveting Read 4 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was fortunate enough to read a copy of this book before it was published and I was hooked from start to finish. I loved it so much I still bought a copy to put on my Kindle as I intend to read it again.

It's a down to earth and gritty account of one person's journey in the martial arts. Written by an experienced knockdown fighter and teacher, it's an honest account of the hard training, determination, and thick skin you need to be the best you can be.

A great read for anyone involved in, or just interested in, martial arts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!! 20 July 2013
Format:Paperback
The Way of Knockdown is an exciting read from start to finish. I read it in one sitting, once I turned the first page I was hooked.
The Way of Knockdown is one mans journey through the world of Kyokushinkai karate. A true form of karate based on bare knuckle fights with the use of no protection. Kyokushinkai is considered the strongest style of karate and rightly so.
The author tells his story of how kyokushin took him from being bullied to being an extraordinary karateka who became a force to be reckoned with.
This book also goes a step further too, in that you don't need to be a martial artist to enjoy this book. The book delivers on a level that confirms that you truly can be who you wish to be. It just requires hard work and determination. I highly recommend this title to all. Enjoy. OSU!!

5.0 out of 5 stars a must read for anybody interested in karate! 15 July 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Do you need a magic to become a top martial artist, are there any hidden secrets, are there any short cuts?

The answer is no! This book just about sums up how anybody with the right attitude and work ethic can make it in martial arts, it takes time and personal determination.

Everybody I know who has read the book has read it in one go without putting it down, a great description of what kyokushin was like in the seventies and eighties, brutal, if one couldn`t cope, goodbye!

Everybody who is into knockdown should read it and anybody who lacks self belief must read it!

Highly recommended!!

Gary has a great way of telling his story and as i knew him nearly forty years ago it brings back many memories of how the training used to be. not many people could take it to the level he achieved but he had a level of commitment that sidestepped anything that could stop him from achieving his dream, quality read

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 24 Feb. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An excellent read, as a knockdown practitioner myself I found it particularly interesting from the training/competing angle, as well as the mentality that needs to accompany it, but it goes much further than that.
I'd strongly recommend to all martial artists and non martial artists alike. Osu!
