Novel no 6 in Japan's hottest series - and the international phenomenon known as Haruhism!

Product Description

Readers take a step into a time warp in five short stories. Head back to events from the previous books and previously unseen scenes and perspectives to uncover mysteries that had been left unanswered.

Live Alive - Kyon peruses the stalls at the cultural festival and visits Mikuru's noodle stall. Everything seems normal for once, until a surprise band shows up to perform.

The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina: Episode 00 - The movie that the SOS Brigade created in The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya is shown and the Brigade gets to see it in its final form. * Love at First Sight - Kyon meets with an old friend, who describes seeing a girl he's fallen in love with-and it turns out to be Yuki! Will this mere human have a chance with the world's most stoic robot?

Where Did the Cat Go? - This story takes readers back to Book 3 (The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya) in which the SOS Brigade finally begins the main event for the Snow Mountain retreat murder mystery.

The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina - Mikuru asks Kyon to accompany her to buy tea leaves, but a secret motive may be involved.

Though Tanigawa's later novels are mainly in short story format, each story is linked to the main plot from his earlier books. They tend to fill in the blanks, elaborating incidents that happen in tandem with previous experiences suffered by the intrepid members of the SOS Brigade under their incorrigible leader, Haruhi Suzumia. Like Kyon, the reader can't quite understand how Tanigawa's heroin has worked her spell once again into forcing you to share in his suffering ...perhaps it lies in Kyon's own irresistible recounting of each adventure! (Do read other reviews that describe the plot of each story in greater detail.)

The sixth book in the `Haruhi Suzumiya' series of light novels contains a further five short stories of the adventures of the SOS Brigade.

`Live Alive': The first story in the book is about the first day of the North High School Festival and sees Kyon get a surprise when he goes to see a concert being put on by the pop music club. This is an entertaining, if short, story that has some nice character development for Haruhi and is worth a good four stars.

`The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00': This story is the film that the SOS Brigade made and it is a brilliantly funny story. As with the anime adaptation, it is Kyon's narration of events that makes it so good and this is probably one of my favourite of the `Haruhi Suzumiya' short stories. This story is well worth a full five stars on its own and is probably my favourite one in this book.

`Love at First Sight': This is quite a nice story that focuses on Nagato. The story sees one of Kyon's friends from Junior High call him saying that he is in love with Nagato. As she is one of my favourite characters, I will always like any story that focuses on Yuki and this one is no exception. The story has some quite sweet moments as well as some humorous ones and it is worth a full five stars.

`Where Did the Cat Go': An okay story that details Koizumi's murder mystery game that takes place after the story `Snowy Mountain Syndrome'. The story is quite interesting and although the beginning is rather slow with a lot of scene setting but once that is done it does become quite interesting, although I did guess the identity of the murderer quite easily. Overall an interesting story that is worth four stars on its own.

`The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina': The final story in this book is one, as the name suggests, that focuses on the SOS Brigade's resident time traveller and sees her ask Kyon out to go buy tea together. While I am not much of a fan of Asahina I did quite enjoy this story as it does have a few nice moments between her and Kyon and does in the end have an interesting plot. I would probably give this story four and a half to five stars.

Overall this was another good instalment of the `Haruhi Suzumiya' light novels that range from the funny to the thoughtful but remain entertaining throughout. Overall I will have to give this book a rating of four and a half to five stars.

Fun to read for any Haruhi fan 15 Nov 2011

This being sixth entry in the light novel series, in chapter one, the day of the cultural festival has arrived, and Kyon visits the day's events. These include a fried noodle stall run by Mikuru and a live performance by a surprising band. The movie created in The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya is shown for the first time in chapter two. An old friend of Kyon's calls in chapter three to ask him about a girl he saw Kyon walking with months before. He is actually referring to Yuki, and tries to pursue her. In chapter four, the SOS Brigade finally begins the main event for the Snow Mountain retreat, a murder mystery. In chapter five, Mikuru asks Kyon to accompany her to buy tea leaves, but a secret motive may be involved. (Wiki reference)

The first 2 chapters are covered in the anime but still fun to read. The other 3 chapters are also fun to read, chapter 4 "Where did the Cat Go?" is a great chapter that will keep you thinking. This is a great book and for any fan of the series this book would make a excellent addition to their collection.
