Product Description

Review

"Watercolour will entertain you for a lifetime. Those who have spent decades with it can testify how they are continually charmed and amazed by new discoveries every time they put paint to paper. This book was developed to clarify and simplify various aspects of painting with watercolour, while at the same time challenging you with new possibilities. However, unlike a book of rules that tend to close our minds, this is a collection of principles, concepts and general information designed to expand the creative process. This is your invitation to join the magic world of watercolour." Gordon MacKenzie"

5.0 out of 5 stars The best beginner's book yet 1 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
there are many beginner's books on the market. This book covers all the techniques any beginner and probably most improvers need to learn. In fact some of the techniques are not covered in most books, elementary or advanced. The examples given are excellent. Having taught watercolour painting myself for over 15 years the author covers everything I teach and more. I thoroughly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars techniques to learn 19 Sep 2010
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I like to dabble with watercolour, though I am far from proficient. I am, therefore, always on the lookout for books that will improve my technique. This book fits the bill. I found information in this book that I had not found elsewhere. The aim of the book is not to set rules but to open up the creative process.

This book gives advice on choosing materials, including useful sections on the characteristics of paint and the uses of different types of brush. Chapter two involves various exercises to get you used to the different affects achieved by using different brushes and techniques. That tricky subject of washes is dealt with in detail. The superb step by step instructions for painting using masking on several layers is fantastic for getting to grips with this aspect of painting. The chapters on composition, negative shapes and values are also good. Each chapter is illustrated by the author's paintings. The examples on how to use the colour wheel and painting with colour are also highly recommended.

This is a good book to release the artist within you. The professional tricks of the trade will help you overcome your inhibitions and paint intuitively.
