Book Description

4 April 2005
Watercolour is a wonderful medium, but it does sometimes seem to have a "mind of its own", refusing to do quite what is required. The keys to success are good planning, constant practice and a thorough understanding of your materials, so if you are new to painting, start by trying out some of the techniques and projects in this book as well as experimenting with different colour mixes and types of paper.

5.0 out of 5 stars concise 29 Jun 2009
Format:Hardcover
As a beginner, I wanted a book to help me get up and running with water colour painting. I purchase this book after flicking through a selection in a shop.

I chose this book as the examples were from a variety of artists and unlike a lot of the other books, all appealed to me.

The book is well laid out and each point is explained very concisely.

It's not a book to spend days reading, I spent about an hour reading the first few chapters, fully and skim reading the rest to make myself aware of the various effects available, I then immediately started painting putting into practice some of what I had learned. I imagine I will re-visit various bits of the book as I need to apply some of the other techniques.

btw. If you haven't yet purchased your paints and brushes, it may be worthwhile holding back till you have bought the book, as advice is given.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential 23 Nov 2010
By Nena
Format:Hardcover
This book is what I was looking for, descriptive and well illustrated. For the beginner is a must as the book shows in detail 'how to' - beautifully coloured, excellent pictures and each chapter fully edited in simple, concise, and easy to understand explanations. Makes learning an enjoyable task as well as presenting a challenge for the beginner. It shows how to mix perfect colouring as well as the pre-painting preparation and the quality of papers to use for each job. Good value for money. I take it with me to every lesson.
