The Best Book I have read about water! 16 Jun 2012
By speak4languages - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Award winning author, Mayra Calvani's new book The Water Cycle is the most informative book I have read on the subject of water. The author did an outstanding job making the book interactive for young readers. Every word the author uses paints a vivid picture mentally. This is what makes this book so very valuable for young readers. The book is about the stages of water droplets. After reading the book, I learned how water droplets turn into heavy rain, hailstones, water vapor, and even snowflakes.

The book fascinated me. I wanted to soak up every detail the author has to offer from this well written book. The author took a difficult topic and made it very easy to understand.

Mayra Calvani has a unique ability to make the words jump off the page. Her concise use of words can be a teacher's delight. Elementary teachers can use her book to teach about descriptive word use. Additionally, this book is a great resource for a science classroom. Here are some examples of descriptive words:

The water trickles and pours
The rain surges and swishes
Hailstones plunge like white rocks
The hailstones crash and melt
The wind howls, and the flurries
swirl and spin in an angry dance

Can you see the images in your mind after reading these words? I can.
To add more value to the book, the last two pages include a word search match activities.

Finally, Alexander Morris' outstanding and colorful illustrations help bring the story to life.

Interactive, Fun Learning 13 Jun 2012
By Cheryl C. Malandrinos - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
With its bolded words and lyrical style, The Water Cycle: Water Play Series, Book 1 will captivate readers. Calvani's flowing text combined with the whimsical artwork provided by Alexander Morris makes learning fun.

What is unique about this book is how it becomes interactive when the reader is asked how certain weather makes people feel. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Also included are two fun activities to help readers remember what they learned.

Teachers and parents will want to pick up this one.
The Water Cycle: Water Play Series Book 1 29 May 2012
By Mymcbooks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My Review: Award-winning children's author, Mayra Calvani latest picture book is about how the water droplets form and turn into rain and drops over the farms, houses, schools and how they fill the side walk with puddles. People can get wet and children love to play in the rain.

The raindrops can get heavy to cause downpour or turn into a flood. The rain can be collected into a reservoir where a filter cleans it and it's ready to drink through taps.

Children would learn that during the summer when it is very cold inside the cloud, hail may form which are solid chunks of ice and plunge like white rocks on the sidewalk. During the winter the droplets turn to ice crystals and grow into snowflakes and when the sun comes out the snowflakes melts and turn to water.

This book will teach children the different stages of water droplets how they turn into heavy rain, form hailstones, snowflakes and water vapor. The droplets can't wait to get rounder and heavier soon the cloud can't hold them any longer and they turn into rain again.

The last two pages include a word search and word match activities. The art works by Alexander Morris are bright and fun which helps to tell the story.

Great book for early learning!

Children Were Captivated 23 May 2012
By Maureen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My 7 year old Grandson and I read this book together, and we greatly enjoyed it.
He was able to read parts to me, and loved answering the questions...like what was Ginger the cat feeling when she was hiding under the porch, during the hail storm? There are several questions like that, and and he had a delightful time thinking up answers.
We followed the journey of the rain droplets that got to heavy for the clouds to hold. We read about rain, floods....he felt sorry for the poor kids and Mom in the back of the truck! Also hail and snow...and then how the water got back up to the clouds.
This is a really great learning experience, and he did the word search at the end.
I received a copy of this book from the author Mayra Calvani and was not required to give a positive review.
Experience the rain without having to get wet! 10 May 2012
By Lori Calabrese "Children's Books Examiner" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
If you live in the Northeast, chances are you feel as though you're Noah and you should be building your ark. We've been hammered with rain during the last week, and if you have little ones, you know how restless they can get having to stay inside. So why not take the opportunity to teach them about rain with Mayra Calvani's latest book, THE WATER CYCLE: WATER PLAY SERIES BOOK 1?

In THE WATER CYCLE, young readers will be fascinated to learn that water droplets form in the clouds and when the clouds can't hold them up, they fall and turn to rain. Then follow along as the rain fills the sidewalks with puddles, turns into a flood, goes into a station called a reservoir where we get our drinking water from, and ends up in the ocean. Young readers will also learn about hail, how the water droplets turn into snowflakes, how it can become a blizzard and how water vapor rises into the air, only to start the entire process all over again.

This is a difficult topic, however, Calvani presents it in a way that makes it fun and easy to comprehend for young readers. Bright illustrations help convey the message, interactive questions are scattered along various pages, and you can keep the kids busy with some fun activities at the back of the book. So the next time you're stuck inside because of the rain, pick up your copy of THE WATER CYCLE and experience the rain without having to get wet.
