The Watchers is a children’s novel that starts off as a realistic insight to the behaviour of two young orphan children who wish to escape their home. They choose Alton Towers, but the fun wears off as darkness approaches. The story turns supernatural when Katy and Josh discover the startling secret of Alton Towers involving both good and evil.
I enjoyed this book: well developed characters, an ordinary plot turned extraordinary, and the exciting tensions formed. I was not at all disappointed when the mysteries are revealed or with the ending. The only criticism I have is the lack of a sound theme: going from the issue of orphaned children to the fight of good and evil was a bit strange, but the author has tried (and almost pulled it off) to combine the two. I recommend this book to children from any background.
