I love reading about the home front during World War II. I enjoyed reading about the food, clothes, furinture etc that was available during the war. I enjoyed reading about Christmas time during the war and most of all enjoy reading about the resilience and patriotism showed by the people of Britain when Fascism posed a severe threat.

What a thoroughly enjoyable and informative book. I did struggle with it for the first few pages which explained life from the late 19th century but stuck with it and glad I did. If you enjoy the life and struggles during WW2 then this is definitely a book for you.

A good readable book, full of interesting facts. This book would have got five stars from me, except that there are no illustrations. It would have benefitted greatly from having a few pictures to break up the text.

More than half of it is not about wartime at all 4 Feb. 2014
By Anne M Boyd - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Disclaimer: I did not read the entire book. I read close to the first half of it, which is a perfectly respectable and detailed little history of the development of post-WWI suburbia in Britain during the 20s and 30s, and then really wondered where the part about life in wartime is - so much so that I checked the book to make sure I wasn't reading the wrong book by mistake. I skipped ahead and saw that the material about actual wartime life only appears in the second half and didn't appear very complete and detailed. It seems as though at least part of the book was written as a history of interwar suburbia and then the whole thing was rebranded because life in WWII is a sexier subject. Please read other reviews besides mine before deciding whether you want to read this book because I can't judge the half I didn't have the patience to get to.

Just an Ordinary read 19 Sept. 2014

I have to say I did not really enjoy this book, Home life in Wartime Britain. Maybe it is because there are so many books covering this subject. I found nothing in it that has not been printed before, perhaps the Market for them is saturated. It was not badly written, but there was nothing new in it
