Product Description

Product Description

More fantastic adventure tales written by Bernard Cornwell. This collection contains ‘Excalibur’, ‘WinterKing’ and ‘Enemy of God’.

A triology containing Excalibur, Winter King and Enemy of God.

Excalibur
The third novel in the Warlords Chronicle, Excalibur: A Novel of Arthur immerses the reader in the Britain of the Dark Ages. Merlin, the greatest of the Druids, believes that the ancient gods are deserting Britain, and that the invading Saxons can't be defeated without the gods' help. Mordred reigns with a brutal hand, and Arthur sees his dreams of peace evaporate. The author provides exciting descriptions of swordplay and battles, interspersed with somewhat gruesome depictions of ordinary life in those days–greasy, waist-length beards serving as napkins, lambs bloodily sacrificed before festivals, and rampant lice.

Winter King
Cornwell really is one of the nation's most impressive authors. And whether he's writing a maritime thriller or a napoleonic war novel, he never disapoints. The Winter King see’s the beginning of the Warlord Chronicles, quite possibly the best series he's written, and follows the story of Derfel, through childhood, into Arthur's service and in the following books, through war and into his old age.

Enemy of God
Enemy of God is the second book in The Warlord Chronicles series by Bernard Cornwell. The trilogy tells the legend of Arthur seen through the eyes of his follower Derfel Cadarn.

About the Author

Bernard Cornwell worked for BBC TV for seven years, mostly as producer on the Nationwide programme, before taking charge of the current Affairs department in Northern Ireland. In 1978 he became editor of Thames Television’s Thames at Six. Married to an American, he now lives in the United States.

The Warlord Trilogy: The Winter King/Enemy Of God/Excalibur

This has been a long time coming. I owned these on Cassette long ago and wore them out, now finally, they are here on CD.

This is probably the best adaptation of Arthur I have come across. Emotionally inspiring and a real delight to listen to, this novel which is narrated excellently by Tim Pigott-Smith is a real gem and should be cherished. It tells the tale of Arthur through the eyes of one of his foot solders, littered with both joy and sadness Bernard Cornwall's vision of an Arthurian Briton is captured here in an audible dream.

Highly recommended!

This set of 15 cds comes in a stack box. I love the books and saw this as a direct evolution from them and I have not been disappointed. I am only 3rd of the way through but the quality is excellent and the reading is sympathetic to the style of the books.
Get these if you are a fan of audio books or need something for a really long journey as it is such a brilliant story you can't help but love it. If you like the books then you should have bought this already!
