ordered this originally through the BBC web shop only to be told it was not available till april. Got it from The Wand Company within a couple of days albeit a lot more expensive but worth paying the extra to get it for my son for chistmas. My son was over the moon

In a move welcomed by many fans (well this fan at least) The Wand Company have released the 10th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver as a universal remote control. Last year's Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver - Universal Remote Control was an impressive release, giving you not just a programmable IR remote, but also a solid feeling replica of Matt Smith's sonic screwdriver. This year sees the release of David Tennant's Sonic, a replica based on 3D scanning the actual sonic used in the TV show.

If there's one thing The Wand Company gets spot on it's the presentation. The 10th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver comes well packaged in a simple cardboard box, the perfect shape for wrapping up as a gift. Open the outer box and you're presented with a nice plastic case with a Sonic icon etched into the plastic.

This case opens in half to reveal the Sonic screwdriver and a USB charging cable. These sit in rubber which, when removed from the case, reveal the instruction booklet and presentation stand (which until I read the instructions I took to be a small coaster!).

Normally when you get instructions with some electronic device you immediately ignore them for the dull booklet they are; not so with the Sonic, The Wand Company attention to detail strikes again and they unfold into a large sheet with clearly written instructions on how to use the Sonic on one side and a blueprint style poster on the other.

The Sonic Screwdriver offers a number of different modes:

Control mode - Fires out IR commands when you perform a gesture. Also plays sound effects when a gesture is performed.

"I'm all sonicked up!"
Reviewing this product is a delight, starting with the images posted by Wand Company, colours and quality of the product are adequately represented as same as product give or take for photo quality, description fails to mention the squeaks of delight when opening the box, spoken prompts could be a tad louder but I'm half deaf, mayhaps you chaps can judge for yourselves,.
Feels a bit fragile although this ain't a toy so is that relevant?
Programming it is a bit difficult.....well, I say difficult, bit complex.....well....I say complex.....bit easier than I thought really, thanks for the free coaster, well....it looks like a coaster but in fact is a neo-whatchamacallit, magnet doofer....oh what am I saying....just buy one!
Packaging is top quality, internal and external are designed to make you realise this is a quality and feature packed product, can operate ANY IR operable kit if you program it right.
Great for display or use, fantastic blueprint of the sonic using advanced/exaggerated terminology to describe the sonic in a way that appeals to whovians.
I love it, you will too.

Bought for my son as a birthday present - wow - I wish they made lots of different ones - I want one for myself! I found it really hard to resist playing with this when he wasn't looking but I need a different one - either the other Dr Who sonic screwdriver or the wand so I can get all the fun without feeling guilty.

Feb 2015 - A fault had developed and I want to let everyone know how absolutely brilliant the Wand Company was in sorting it out. I sent it back to them and they replaced it straight away and also paid my return postage. I couldn't ask for better service than that!!!

When I bought the 11th Screwdriver Remote, I couldn't help but be disappointed with it. Then Wand Co announced that they've made and are brining out this... the 10th Sonic Screwdriver.

I'm not gonna write a huge blog on its features and what it can do cause a lot of people have done that already. All I knew was, I wanted one. So I treated myself, and got it the next day.

The delivery depot was brill. They sent me 2 text messages, 1 at 6.30am to say they've retrieved it and another to say I was gonna get it between 10.30am and 11.30am.

the weight of the screwdriver took me back, but was still amazed on how light it was and the wonder of how TWC crammed that much technology in it.

All I can say for the Sonic Screwdriver is, its beyond incredible. The things I could do was fantastic. I had it on FX made, just checking out the sound FX. I pressed the button 3 times holding it down on the 3rd. Noticed the blue tip flickering, then my TV turned off. I read the instructions and found that what I did made the Sonic scan around for TV sets and turns them off or on. So... been the mischievous b*****d that I am decided to take it to Tescos, went to the TV section. Yeah, you know what I was gonna do. What I found funny was my Sonic turned off 7 TV sets at the same time.

If you're thinking about buying 1, take my advice, don't think just buy it! I'm still having fun with my Sonic
