So, I'm 28 and I'm a total Nerd, but to be honest I just never got on the whole comic thing and can say I've never read a comic book in my life. I do however love zombies.
After watching The Walking Dead - Season 1 [DVD] I was totally hooked and like most of my interest, I look into them more and find out the whole series is based on a comic book, more specifically a long-running black-and-white one.
For the price of this compendium I thought I would give it a try and I honestly enjoyed reading through it. The stories are loosely the same, but go in different directions so reading/watching one doesn't ruin the other for you and I'm enjoying both as two separate media.
Since buying this I've brought 2, 3 and 4 and am only holding off on buying the next to prolong the experience so I can continue to enjoy the Walking Dead for longer.
So if like me you've never read comic books before but were tempted after watching the TV series, I'd say give it a go, I'm almost certain you won't regret it!

Without a doubt, one of the finest comic books of recent years. Intelligently written, believable, realistic and thought provoking, if you're a fan of more serious, grown up comic books then this is for you, even if you do not like horror or zombies it is worth giving a try.
Kirkman is a genius and nicely accompanied by talented artists (though I do prefer Adlrad's work from issue #7 onwards) and this book is only the tip of the iceberg. Containing the Days Gone By and Miles Behind Us arcs, compiling volumes 1 and 2 it sets the stage for later events and worse things are always just around the corner.

I bought this as I had enjoyed the TV series and wanted more, and it hasn't disappointed.
It does deviate from the plot of the TV series, or as this came first you could say the TV series did the deviating.... either way the story is different enough to keep you interested.
The book comes in a sturdy hardback format that feels really good quality, I wish all Graphic novels were this well bound. I will be buying the rest of the series.
