Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

It's hard to hear The Walk from end to end without wishing the brothers Hanson could go back in time and undo the career-stunting megahit that was "MmmBop." If it wasn't for that 1997 song, catchy and guilty-pleasurable as it was, the boys would be well on their way to winning over the kind of committed audience a disc as focused and fine-tuned as this one deserves. There's nothing particularly high-minded here (excepting the single "Great Divide," a downloadable track whose sales will benefit an African orphanage), but each song radiates a level of pop-rock accomplishment that surpasses most anything you'll hear on top 40 radio. Hanson, in fact, has more in common with acts like Fountain of Wayne and Amos Lee these days than anybody you'll see strutting across a TV screen in skin-tight pants. Highlights on a disc without a single dud include "Georgia," contemplatively sung by Taylor, and "Running Man," an addictive Squeeze-meets-Beatles rock ditty co-written by Zac. In its 15-year history, Hanson has won the right to talk the talk about the hardships and satisfactions of maturing musically; The Walk backs that talk up beautifully. --Tammy La Gorce

5.0 out of 5 stars All Grown Up! 21 April 2007
Format:Audio CD
These men are talented.

Seeing them live and listening to this album has just made me realise what a great bunch of musicians they really are. "The Walk" does not disappoint, the songs are closer to the genre of 'indie' than 'rock-pop' in *my* opinion. All the songs are well written and the music ranges from fast to slow. This album is a mixture of the talents of all three brothers, and in the end they have produced a great album that deserves all its rewards.

Hanson fan? Buy. Not? You'll still enjoy and appreciate this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Kidding? It is Actually Good... 12 July 2007
Format:Audio CD
OK, I'll be the first to admit that I was not a fan of Hanson in their "mmmbopp stage". However, they have now matured to a band that writes and plays not what other people want, but what they feel is right for them. I didn't know they were around any more until I saw their Great Divide music video on the tv. As I watched that video I had no idea who the band was, but I certainly had to find out. Much to my great surprise it was Hanson. I went back and bought their previous album Underneath and it was good, I liked most of the tracks.

Then when this album came out I had to check it out. Up to the release I downloaded the podcast from iTunes and watched their Underneath podcast which exposes the American Music Industry and the corruption that money has done. Then they had a podcast for The Walk which featured the making of just about every track. I kid you not, by watching this podcast I had a greater appreciation for all bands that wrote and played their own music.

Now about The Walk. This is an absolutely great album that I think a lot of people would like if they didn't know it was by Hanson. As a band they have such a negative stigma in America and if you liked them as a kid, well, you just didn't let anyone know. This album is completely different. I played some of the tracks for friends without telling them the artist and they loved it. When I told them it was Hanson they were blown away. I can listen to this album without skipping over any tracks.

**Great Divide** - Has a gospel feel to it without going too far. They incorporate the rock nicely with the guitar and drum beats that really pull everything together.

**Been There Before** - This is honestly my favorite track, it has an infectious beat that gets everyone moving their heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've done it again! 13 Jun 2007
By Kevin VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
After being blown away with Underneath in 2004, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this, their first original material since.

As Hanson themselves announced, this album has a heavier sound, but it's still pop-rock. There is the expected mix of slow, and upbeat tracks. Real thought has gone in to how the songs follow each other making it the kind of album you can just play, rather than flick through just for certain tracks. That said, I do have my favourites.

Any Hanson fan will love this, but I also think anyone who likes to listen to relatively light, upbeat rock, should give this album a go too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect driving pop rock 25 May 2007
By J. Hunt
Format:Audio CD
Hanson recently appeared on a daytime TV show performing 'Go' from this album. On the basis of that wonderful performance alone, and having never bought any Hanson music before (being 42!), I ordered The Walk. This album will not disappoint you. It will take a few listens but it will get under your skin and make you sing along. 'Georgia' is the best song I have heard in a long time and I hope these incredibly talented young men enjoy the success they deserve with it. Even if Taylor's voice annoys you somewhat, it is diluted with sufficient performances from the other brothers so that it does not grate too much. Well worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars How come... 19 May 2007
Format:Audio CD
...that almost no one takes notice of these guys? Perfect music (again)! I have observed Hansons career closely for 10 years. I do admit: I have got all their albums. And I do for a good reason. It`s great music. These guys who have turned their back on the industry a couple of years back have the talend to reinvent themselves with every new record being released. I have not come across anybody lately with that sort of passion to their work. There should be more artists with that talent and courage out there! So to sum up: 5 stars and all thumbs up! Hanson's done it again! And that's too bad for the running man 'cause you just have to stop and listen to that album!

5.0 out of 5 stars A rockier mix 14 April 2014
By 60Griff
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is one of my favourite albums of all time. It's probably Hanson's rockiest offering before Anthem, but keeps that bright Hason-ey vibe. There's barely a skippable track on the whole disc. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hanson at their best! 12 Nov 2013

The walk has to be without a doubt the best work this band has produced since their This Time Around album back in the 2000's. Every song a gem.
