There is only really one complaint I have about this release, which prevents me from giving it a 5 star rating: the main concert is in black and white. I really cannot see the justification for this, because it certainly does not enhance the viewing experience, and you lose half the effect of the on-stage lighting. If an option was included whereby you could switch the colour back on, I cannot imagine anybody would choose not to do so.
Ill-conceived black and white format aside, this is an excellent release. Sound quality is really good, and a considerable improvement on "Better Motorhead than Dead". I have the Blu-Ray version, and played through a home cinema system it sounds awesome, particularly the drums. I think Stagefright still has the edge on this as the definitive live Motorhead video, but this release has less of the rapid editing that some people felt let Stagefright down. In addition to a full concert, there are shorter sequences from two other concerts, both of which are in colour. Interesting version of Born to Raise Hell (one of my favourites) with Mike Monroe joining in with the vocals, where the really tight music is counterbalanced by backing vocals which are seriously off-key. Doesn't bother me too much, but it is quite noticeable.
So having established that you should buy it, the question arises of which format? Blu-ray and DVD formats are the same price on Amazon, so without further thought I opted for Blu-ray. However, had I paused to read the small-print, I would have noticed that the DVD is in fact a DVD-CD package, in the same vein as the excellent Boneshaker release from their 25th Anniversary concert. The Blu-ray version does not include the CD, but will obviously feature a sharper picture. Actually the picture on the Blu-Ray version is not THAT sharp, and given the annoying black-and-white photography, I think I would rather sacrifice some of the definition to have the CD as well. A more expensive variant with other bits and pieces included is also available for those who like that sort of thing, but for most people I would imagine DVD-CD combination will be the one to go for.
