Christiansen, the author of the impressive recent The Visitors: Culture Shock in Nineteenth-Century Britain, has not so much rediscovered Clough, as he claims--literary scholars have been assessing and reassessing him for years--as presented him and his thoughtful poetry in an interesting and accessible manner.
