Book Description

It’s all my fault. All Eve wants is to live a quiet life as a teacher, nothing more. But she kept telling herself that all her troubles—being abandoned by her mother, abused by her stepfather—are her own fault. And when she resists an unwelcome kiss from the minister at church, he hisses the same words at her: “It’s all your fault.”
Fleeing home, she encounters Jake, who gently consoles her with the words “Nothing is your fault.” Eve feels she’s been saved. But she can’t cling to Jake… He is someone else’s man. Someone else who is obsessed with youth and beauty, and who makes everyone around her miserable…

Jake was facinated by Eve from the moment he met her at her grandmother's estate. Her air of mystery, made him wants to find out what secrets she's hiding, and she's hiding a lot of them. I liked the characters of Jake and Eve and I also liked reading this book very much. Although to be honest I'm not quite sure why I liked it...

Eve's grandmother took her in when her mother turned her back on her. Jake's a guest at her gandmothers house and becomes attracted to her, and she to him. They embarked on pursuing a relationship but first they have to overcome the obstacles of both of their past, they are both likable characters who exhibited a strong attraction for each other...

Although the ending was a bit rushed, I think you will like reading this book.
3.0 out of 5 stars heroine or her mother? -- 3.5 22 Feb. 2012
By RomReader - Published on
25yo heroine doesn't know how to respond to 30-something Hero. Hero accompanies another woman to visit her grandmother's house for the weekend. He is not supposed to know that this other woman is heroine's 46yo mother. Heroine resists her attraction towards him since she believes he is her mother's lover. But Hero keeps coming on to her. He is puzzled about his strong attraction to heroine since she openly shows her dislike for him, unlike his companion who persists on seducing him every chance she gets. What will happen when Hero finds out about heroine's relationship to his companion?

I liked how Mather sustained the tension of this triangulated r/s between Hero, the other woman(OW), & heroine. It was easy to guess what the r/s was between heroine & OW but seeing it unfold & wondering how Hero would react are credits to Mather's emotionally-involving writing. The sexual chemistry was titillating yet felt somewhat uncomfortable because of the mother-daughter rivalry for Hero's affections. I liked how the triangulation issue was resolved at the end. The r/s between Hero & heroine's mother was made very clear. What didn't make sense to me though was why Hero didn't just clearly break things off with heroine's mother earlier in the story, especially when he was becoming more & more un-enamored with her & more attracted to heroine. He had some passive-aggressive behaviors towards heroine's mother & had a strange r/s with her. I think he had some mother issues that he as transferring over to heroine's mother. Oedipal complex? Makes me wonder what future family get-togethers will look like.

Somewhat recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting! 27 Mar. 2011
By Neon - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
How can I describe this book? Well, first of all the " Hero " has a on and off relationship a woman 12 years his senior and age does not matter to him. That is really, really disgusting. Seriously. That is what is called " robbing the cradle". Secondly, the older woman acts immature to me. That part of the book really ruined the rest of the book for me. Don't waste your money on piece of s***.
