I big fan of Ultravox back in the late 70s and early 80s, I was only able to see the band once. I was living in New York, and they played a small club on the Vienna tour. I really wish I had seen them with John Foxx, because the music was so much better in the first three albums.
In the early 80s, I bought all of John Foxx's solo stuff - LPs and singles - and I still have some of them, but I don't listen to vinyl any more. I did have the first two albums - Metamatic and The Garden - on CD, but they were poorly mastered.
So I was delighted to spot this release, which includes his first four solo albums, plus a collection of alternate takes and b-sides. It's interesting to listen to this music now. Sure, it sounds totally 80s, yet it doesn't sound dated like a lot of music from those early electro-pop years. There are lots of great songs, b-sides that I remember almost wearing out when I played the singles back in the day, and some alternate versions that are great to hear (but not necessary). At the price - only £16 when I bought it here - it's a steal.
