This is a very special book and thoroughly overdue. Mary Overlie's book is still clearly missing from the canon on physical expressivitiy, but in the meantime, what could be better than the gospel according to Anne and Tina. Anne and Tina, clearly some of the most important successful theatre director's in moderm american culture. This book is a treasure trove of exercises and thoughts from building the ensemble to creating. I disagree with the previous critic, who reflects upon their own directorial training as to this book's credentials. I can only presume they don't teach at Columbia U, have an international reputation and just as many awards as SITI. I'm lucky to have studied with SITI company member Kelly Maurer and all I know is this stuff really works. Sure if you want a book on analysing the text, read Peter Hall's Advice to the Players or Stanislavski's Creating a Role or some other tome. The point is that this book comes at you from the point of view of the body, we are so inward facing, in our own heads that VP helps us get into the body, I'm not sure either director would suggest ignoring the intellectual side. This is a goldmine, actors, directors, writers, teachers, lecturers, professors, anyone interested in building a team, this is the book. This is the book!
