This is a fun read. The author puts together some twists and turns that will leave the reader wondering. I really enjoyed the scenes he created when the P-38 is dog-fighting with the Jap Zero, the writer nailed the action and got my adreneline flowing. He obviously knows aircraft and the P-38. I recommend it as fun, exciting escape reading for a cold winter night with a warm brandy, some Glenn Miller music in the background, and thoughts of, "I wish I could have done that."
The writing deserves five stars, but there is some glitch in the formatting that needs fixing, but don't let that discourage you, it is a damn good story.

A professional's rise to the top of his game...

Captain Flavell's memoir of becoming an airline pilot is a lively stoty of pluck, luck and hard work. Imagine a person with no formal education starting at the bottom of a profession requiring multiple skills, including the ability to remain cool under pressure. His stories of adventure offer a unique perspective to a time when aviation was in itself an exciting adventure. Because of changes and basic requirements in the industry, his path to the top would not be possible today, even with his ability and determination. While the memoir is a five star, I give the book four stars due to the need for stricter editing. Just enjoy the story and disregard the editing.
