`In 1945, the Second World War was over at last, and so everyone joyously celebrated victory.
This book brings to a new generation over 200 of the recipes which helped the nation celebrate on that special day and right up to the end of rationing in 1954.
Among the types of celebrations included are family celebrations, neighbourhood celebrations, the Home Services, the Volunteer Services, official celebrations-how the cities celebrated, how workers in factories celebrated, celebrations in the country and by our Allies.
The book also contains wonderfully nostalgic photographs taken at the time, together with delightful period illustrations and cartoons......'

112 shiny, high quality pages with foreword, an introduction, including paragraphs on:-

The Ministry of Food
Food Rationing - Welfare foods, points system etc
Helping Hands - Extra benefits, emergency feeding, shortages, and managing on rations

I call this Book My Cooking Bible. Simple, Easy and Delicious Recipes you can make with simple ingredient's found in most everyday Kitchen cupboard's without the modern day pomp and ceremony used by Celebrity Chef's. I can just about make any Soup from scratch thanks to this book. It is not a 1 recipe per page book you will get about 6 per page and is well worth the money. It cover's preserving, Soups, Pickles, Making Do and much more. Highly Recommended and easy to follow. Enjoy :)

I purchased this cookbook as the lady driving the jeep is my mum on V.E day. I found the book very interesting i show how little ingrediants they had to use through the time of rationing but made the most of it. And there are some interesting facts in it.

A bit let down
I bought this because I wanted to try some of the recipes used around the time of WW2. I was disappointed. The most major problem is the total lack of an index. Read more
