Buyer beware! This book is exactly the same as "Lasting Elegance: English Country Houses 1830-1900" by Michael Hall. I purchased both books as a present for my wife and was disappointed to find that they where exactly the same inside. To have known this beforehand would have saved a lot of anguish as well as cash! I have rated this book with one star although to be honest it deserves the same five as the other one but I am rather miffed to find the content exactly the same.

The book is well set out with clear illustrations, using the medium of both black and white and colour photographs to good effect. There is enough text to be informative yet not too much to be boring! Some interesting details about style are described and explained.

A lovely book on some of England's finest houses, from country life. The only reason for four stars is because of some pictures being black and white.
