Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Very Small is lost, and when Giant Baby Bear finds him wandering in the woods he decides to take him home to Giant Mummy Bear and Giant Daddy Bear. But as much as The Very Small is grateful that Giant Baby Bear is happy to share his parents with him, nothing can rid him of the feeling that he doesn't quite fit in, and he really really wants to go home...

The Very Small is pure delight from beginning to end, with a charming, gently funny story and cute illustrations, which together explore the idea of sharing and noticing that not everyone in the world is exactly the same.--Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

My favourite book 1 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is my favourite bedtime story at the moment. I really like the pictures, and when mummy does silly voices pretending to be the people in the book. I would like to have a floating bath like the Very Small, but I don't like peas. I am a bit worried about when Baby Bear woke up and the Very Small wasn't there any more. He must have been sad.I didn't like it when this book went back to the library so I got mummy to get it for me.

This book is just beautiful. The wonderful illustrations of Debbi Gliori bring 'the very small" to life. It is a book which children will love and which adults can also learn a thing or two. This will surely be a childrens classic of the future.

Giant Baby Bear finds a Very Small thing who has lost his mummy and so he kindly takes the Very Small home to share his family and home. Very Small is initially quite frightened by the size of Mummy and Daddy bear, but Giant baby bear makes a fun playground from household items and Very Small starts to have some fun. He is then reunited with his own family and his own teddy bear. This is a lovely story with gorgeous illustrations of the family of bears and the Very Smalls. My children particularly love the idea of constructing a seesaw from a cotton reel and a pencil, and a slide from a kitchen roll tube etc. It's also gives the preschool child an interest in sizes, scales and perspectives: how baby bear is a giant to something very small, and how Very Small's teddy seems Very small even to a Very Small! A story that surely will stand the test of time - you'll certainly want to read it over and over again.
