Born in Bristol as Trevor Stanford, he used Russ Conway as his stage name. The piano never sounded more exciting than when Russ played it in his lively, exciting style. Anybody who thinks that piano music is sleep-inducing hasn't heard Russ Conway.
If you remember his music, you'll know that anyway - nobody who was around at the time (even if only as a child) could ever forget Side saddle, one of his two UK number one hits. Russ also made number one with Roulette and had five other UK top ten hits including China tea, Snow coach, Toy balloons and two party pops medleys. He had several lesser UK hits including Lucky five, Always you and me, Pepe, Got a match, Passing breeze, Pablo, World outside, Royal event and two other party pops medleys.
This compilation includes most of Russ Conway's hits together with his distinctive interpretations of La mer (better known by its English title, Beyond the sea, though either will do for this instrumental), Rule Britannia, Mack the knife and other great tunes.
Nobody ever made the piano sound more exciting than Russ Conway - and that includes Liberace.
