If the words "winky, wanky, wooooo" are remotely amusing to you then buy this CD! Do you really need another reason? Well, okay, maybe you do. So, are Patrick Fitzgerald's songs relevant today? Have they meaning? Do they 'grab' you? They are quirky, heartfelt social comments on (and of) a time when social/ political pop tunes flapped desperately at the bottom of the top 100 singles charts (but were prominent in the indie charts of the time). Safety pin, buy me sell me, the bingo crowd, all sewn up are my personal favourites. I guess it's a bit of nostalgia, a trip down memory lane... but a nice one all the same. Go on, buy it. I guess Mr Fitzgerald deserves a few quid in royalties for his unique, witty, funny, daft and sometimes poignant tunes.

if you ever wondered where billy bragg stole his vibe from look no further than this ceedee. a totally F. A. B fab ! collection of early e.p's radio sessions & suchlike from the bob dylan of punk ( his acoustic gigs in 1977 sent punk audiences apoplectic with rage !!!)he influenced the likes of Roddy Frame (from Aztec Camera) & literally tens of others (myself included!) if only someone out there had the good sense to reissue his utterly brilliant major label debut Grubby Stories (Polydor 1979) but till then this compilation would most assuredly do.so buy this cd & grab yourself a real slice of the spirit of '77!!!

I've loved Patrik's stuff from the first time I heard him on the "Safety Pin" EP. I own everything he did on vinyl and played him regularly until the stylus gave way to the laser and his work was not to be tracked down on CD. Quite why he never broke through and why today he doesn't grace the acoustic stages of the countries festivals more often is something I find hard to fathom. "Live Out My Stars" is still the stand out track, but it is in great company. Unique, witty, poignant and biting in turns it shows Patrik as the master of his craft. If you've never heard him or if, like me, you're a longstanding fan you should buy this collection today. Something else which is strangely satisfying for an old punk; my kids HATE it! What better endorsement could there be?

Must! rare and touching.
The first time I heard Patrick was when I was around 16 - very touching music,rare with deep and hard messages. No doubt, he remains the best from then.
