Following up on 'Chas & Dave fan's' review this is not, so to speak, the best of Chas & Dave, But is by far the best C&D CD you'll see on the shelves at the moment. This album charts the period they were with EMI (1977-1981) and maybe should've been titled 'The EMI Years'. To my ears this CD is the best example of a much underrated and misunderstood band's music and I can't recommend it highly enough. Including the 'Rockney', Don't Give A Monkey's, and 'Live At Abbey Road' albums plus rarities, outtakes, and some banging remixes. Chas & Dave are no mere party band, and but for some questionable marketing would now be mentioned in the same breath as Madness, Ian Dury etc. Investigate!!

A quality CD 16 May 2005
Format:Audio CD
Pay attention Justin, these are original studio albums on CD.

Contrary to what the last review suggests, this album is slightly more than another greatest hits.

The first CD is both the 1978 "Rockney" and 1979 "Don't give a monkeys" LP's. The only downside is that we don't get the cracking album cover that was "Don't give a monkeys".

The 2nd CD in the set is the 1979 "Live at abbey road" LP with a large collection of previously unreleased tracks.

Therefore, it's everything you could want: A few classic albums on CD with some unreleased material.

What a bargain! Here we have three complete albums from Chas'n'Dave, one of the more exciting British musical products of the late seventies at a bargain basement price. Not only this, but the albums have been nicely remastered and include bonus tracks such as B sides and outtakes. It deal, it's a steal!

Following their debut (the wonderful One Fing 'n' Anuvver), Chas'n'Dave signed to EMI and recorded these three albums, continuing their musical vision of up tempo rock'n'roll with a London twist mixed with slower, London based songs, all with a sense of humour and a wish to entertain and make people happy.

When they rock, they rock. I am a Rocker is an absolute classic motoring song. When they use humour (Sideboard song, Massage Parlour) it is understated, bringing a smile to the face rather than attempting to make you laugh. Then they can slow it down with a sad story (Punchy and the Willy Warbler) just to punctuate the mood.

The two studio albums are fine efforts, and contain some of my favourite recordings of theirs, but the star of the show it the `Live at Abbey Road'. This recording really shows the energy of the band when playing live, where they rock it up to the rafters.

A really star package, I cannot recommend it enough. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to enjoy the music on here. Five stars, no hesitation.
