This compilation starts off very strong and im pleased to say very predictably.Such a collection just has to begin with "The Stripper" but number 2 "Harlem Nocturne" by "The Viscounts" almost out-sleazes it. Both discs are one sure scandal after another and some of the titles alone are all you need to know to guage the subject matter."She likes to boogie real low", "Fever"(of course it couldn't not be here in some guise),"Just a gigolo...", "Hot little mama" and "More bounce to the ounce". The contents are obviously not about "The moon in june" or the price of doggies in windows!

This is some of the choicest r&b, blues, jazz and rockabilly cuts of the era. Almost all are from the 50's. On balance this is an excellant compilation and almost never puts a foot wrong.

One minor criticism and one of the two reasons (the 2nd reason is in the next paragraph) for the missing 5th star.I've got quite a few of these "Not Now" compilations as they are great value for money but someone has to be vetting the selection for future ones. For example,as much as i love the song "Suzie-q",is almost beginning to induce a yawn it turns up on so many of them.Just because a song is really good doesnt mean it has to be on every release. Surely with so much becoming available due to expiring copyrights it wouldnt be difficult to give some other lesser known songs a moment in the the sun.

On a (almost)final note "Not Now" seem to have part way addressed the issue of flimsy jewel cases for these doubles. I say in part as this one was sturdier than earlier issues but the middle that holds the 2 discs still comes out of its housing too easily. Maybe it shouldnt be an issue at these prices but i dont expect to pick discs off the floor the 1st time i open a case to play them.

This really is an atmospheric set opening with the classic "The Stripper" performed by David Rose orch but including so much more and from a huge timespan too. The set has a total running time of approx 138 minutes. The performances come from as early as 1932 with Cab Calloway and as recent as 1959 with Bobby Darin. You get to hear all kinds of music that could well have featured at a burlesque show and it includes big band, jazz, blues, bebop, latin. The sound quality is very good and Not Now are putting together some different compilations that will interest a wide audience. The liner notes are by Mick St Michael and the whole thing is nicely packaged. Another excellent addition to the catalogue...

If you are a new comer to tonights soiree then begin here your journey here. Loosen the top button, pull away the tie and let the groin gyrate like a helicopter because this provides the bast of sax intro to a twirling world of whirling tassles, the sheen of nylons to the thwack of the garter coupled. All coupled to the heave within the corset.

On this platter there is a brusque assortment of rhythms and tempo's for the discerning gent to set the time and body motion of the inner clock. All these artistes rush to the fore offering their wares and each has a unique style. Be prepared to be entertained within 2 minute blasts.

Every choice morsel offered on the dish has been plucked from the golden period in the mid 20th century, when sexual frission was kept under mink wraps and the imagination performed the rest. This provides the back drop to a midnight serenade where you can honk your horn or ravish a kitten. No not the stray that the night brought in but the one purring on the bearskin rug.

These tunes allowed the musicians to sing, chant, weave and blast the curve of the body to genty raise and evoke those deep special moments of body chemical fission. Here you have two servings of sea food to lick, guzzle and feed upon. A louche collection of bebopers, jazzers, blues artists, rock and rollers all assisting you to slip into something casual and enjoy the ride.

Yes sure the tempos vary from headback dreamy to rip roaring punder. It all depends on how long you can wait. The promise ies in the foreplay of the tease and enticement until the room erupts in those frenzied beats.

this was on my wish list and bought for me from Amazon by a friend. Contains 2 CDs one a 'CD 1' and a 'CD 2'

it was only when I tried to copy each CD to my MP3 player that I discovered both CDs are exactly the same despite having different labels.......

Songs shortened so that no musical overlay to the dances.. you are not walking off mid tune.
Wether you want to listen for old times sake, My Mum loves it too, or for dancing, its a great buy!

I already had half of this double CD set on vinyl so useful to have these now on CD. It is hard to imagine some of these tracks being a soundtrack to a burlesque routine - for example 'Mellow Saxophone' is too fast surely and a number of tracks you could jive to. Others are way too slow too.
Some tracks are just average instrumentals and very few are raunchy, sleazy and slow strip sexy.I also don't think 'Fever' is by Lois Prima as stated on the track listing either but it is a superb cut. If you haven't got 'The Stripper' by David Rose you will if you buy this 2 CD 50 track compilation.
Nice to have 'Whatever Lola Wants', 'Peter Gunn', and 'Harlem Nocturne'.
The average instrumental tracks would be transformed if they were a soundtrack to a burlesque routine of course! This is more big band early 50s R'n'B stuff in the main rather than late 50s more electric. It is mainly 50s which I like anyway!
The Dizzy Gillespie track Algo Bueno reminds me of the juke box track in 'The Wild One' as it is jazzy be bop whereas the film was tragically too early to have wild Rock'n'Roll which is what it should have had.
Anyway, it still gets a 4 star rating as most of it could be used for burlesque and other stuff is also worth having anyway. Well worth the purchase price!
