Product Description

At 34, an SAS soldier's days of active service are over. After risking his life for his country, he is condemned to spend the rest of his days in a dead-end civilian job.

But one man decides he isn't ready to be put out to pasture.

The Vengeance Man.

As the 'operations manager' for a specialist insurance firm, he can still work undercover for clients that include the Government.

And working behind the scenes, and beyond the law, he can still take up arms on behalf of the weak and the helpless.

A personal crusade is born.

And while the public may applaud as 'The Vengeance Man' brings justice to the guilty, very soon the Government has no choice but to bring their most lethal maverick operative under control.

The hunt begins....and it will end in death.

This enthralling, thought-provoking action-packed thriller, written by an insider from the front-line of intelligence work, is certain to appeal to readers of Lee Child, Frederick Forsyth, Robert Ludlum and Andy McNab.

"The Vengeance Man is the best new action thriller this year" - Matt Lynn, author of the best-selling Death Force series.

"A heart-pumping ride, with more twists than a roller-coaster." - Tom Kasey, author of the best-selling Trade Off.

John MacRae is the cover name of a former senior Intelligence Officer with a Special Forces background. He has written extensively on intelligence and military history, and has worked for BBC television and other TV companies as an advisor on military and intelligence subjects. He saw active service in the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Arabia, and Northern Ireland.

5.0 out of 5 stars A storming summer read 16 July 2012
By Nelson
The vengeance man is a book that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. It starts off like an Andy McNabb or Chris Ryan thriller with a washed up SAS man, but ends up in Lee Child territory, with a hero who brings justice into a bitter and lawless world. There is some great action, and an engaging hero. It's nice to see a Brit writing an American style thriller, set in Britain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee Child-like. 16 July 2012
This is the first John Macrae book I have read but it certainly won't be the last I reckon. He has created a fascinating and complex hero. He is flawed in many ways, but with a burning sense of justice. There will be comparisons with Lee Child and Jack Reacher but that's no bad thing. The action zips from place to place, and you can tell the author knows exactly what he is talking about. Macrae does not allow the wealth of knowledge he has from his background bog down the pace of the story however. The Vengeance Man is just a good no thrills thriller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, twisting and turning 6 Aug 2012

I don't normally review books but this one was really enjoyable. In the summary (An action-packed thriller)etc, I would add action-packed political thriller to the headline.
Not wishing to spoil the plot for future readers I just wondered if there was any possibility of a follow up I.E Revenge??
I was reading this on an e-book reader and did not notice any problems with typos or pagination that some have experienced.
Really worth the money - FREE, what a great read

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite entertaining but.... 3 Aug 2012

Contains spoiler.
I am a big fan of Lee Child and Andy McNab, whose work this book is said to be analgous to. McNab maybe, no similarity to Lee Childs work.
Anyway, the good points. A nice easy read, a page turner in fact, and a plot that you think just may be possible, e.g. a deniable "black ops" group, masquerading as a private company, but carrying out HMG's dirty work for them.
The bad points.
Areas of the plot are unlikely, i.e. a highly trained SAS officer carries out a house break in using his unique and identifiable old Regiment duffle bag, knowing the occupant will be there? Attacking the muggers in broad daylight, and shooting them?
The quality of the proof reading and grammar is dreadful. There are so many spelling mistakes, incorrect punctuation, and grammatical errors. The proof reader (if there was one) should be sacked! This may have been down to the transfer to Kindle format, I don't know.
Finally the ending. Not quite as expected and rather depressing; obviously no sequel unfortunately.
Don't get me wrong, it was an entertaining read which I couln't put down, and congratulations to the author for a very entertaining read. Lets hope for more, only better spelt!

4.0 out of 5 stars A really good story 31 Aug 2012

Looked at the other reviews on Amazon before I bought this book on kindle. I really enjoyed the read. I suppose we would all like to do the "revenge" bit when we read articles in the press. I would certainly buy this author again. If you want a book as "mind time" then buy it. My only problem similar to other reviews were the spelling mistakes on kindle as well as punctuation etc. this did not do the author any favours. It did not detract from the book but needs attention.

3.0 out of 5 stars Speeeling Mitakes 1 Aug 2012

This book was free when I read it, so should be seen in that light, but I note is now chargeable.

First of all it bears no comparison with the authors it compares itself with.

Secondly and perhaps more importantly it is riddled with typos. I have bought many books from Amazon where there are errors and have read many reports commenting on the same. But this one is terrible !!!
I still do not understand how there can be ANY errors let alone nearly hundreds. Count them if you don't believe me ! Has he not got at least one friend who can proof read it. It is actualy insulting.
Before anyone comments on any spelling mistakes here, I haven't got the benefit of spell checkers or time unlike the author.

However having said all the above, it's still a very good read and I would recommend it if you are able to "read through" the countless errors that constantly jolt you back to reality.

Without the errors it might have got a 4 or 5 star rating. As the author hasn't bothered to read the end result I can't be bothered to score any higher.
