"How to grow food in containers" is what it says on the cover, & that is exactly what it does inside in easily understood language.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother - no real information in here. 4 Nov 2013
By Bill Ranken - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a very simplistic book with little to no "real information" to assist in truly growing a productive container garden. Wasted my time reading the whole thing just trying to find something of such luck. Not sure why anybody bothered to "publish" this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fluff piece 16 Jan 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well, it's kind of a fluff piece. I read through the first third of the book before it even really started and then it talks about doing a pH soil test on every pot in your garden for $10 each, plus it's a mail-in thing. I prefer the books that say, if it looks like this, it's this so do this. I don't need to overanalyze my garden before it's started. There's another fluff chapter after that and then it gets into actual vegetables, starting with artichokes which are recommended but require containers 3 ft wide by 1 ft deep. That's a pretty big container for just artichokes. Then some vague directions, "plant early or they may not flower correctly". What is early? March? February? Since it's in a container and I can control heat, light, and nutrients, why? After reading through half the vegetables, I felt like I'd just read a seed catalog. Seriously, that's where this information came from. It wasn't even adapted to container gardening. I guess that's why it's a free special on Kindle. It's poorly organized, a lot of fluff, and various information from different seed packets. Since each vegetable has a different "required' soil pH and they're all different, presumably you would need to make a different soil mix for every single vegetable. I've managed to use the same soil and successfully grown at least eight different vegetables, so I'm not even sure this information is accurate. I honestly cannot recommend this book. For anyone. I'm getting better information from Pinterest, like growing potatoes in a laundry basket.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eureka! 5 Sep 2013
By just sayin' - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've tried to have a lil garden since retiring 7 years ago. A garden wasn't part of my life growing up, disappointment was a matter of mixed emotion.

Growing food in a container helped me reach 'the goal' this year. I took what I wanted, left what I didn't want and have had a successful year.
