1.0 out of 5 stars None 1 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have never felt compelled to write a review before but I am so disappointed. Val you are so much better than this. The story is an uncomfortable read from the start. A mash up of Jade Goody Jordan Chantelle as the main character but it was the ending that did it for me. Totally ridiculous abrupt and quite frankly lame. I preordered this book months ago and eagerly awaited the next installment of Tony Hill and Carol Jordan. Val McDermid fans please do not be duped into buying this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Real Departure From The Norm For Val 13 Jan 2013
By Karen
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having always been an avid fan of Val McDermid books I bought this despite the other reviews. It is no Tony Hills novel and a real departure from anything else I've read of hers, it seems that the story has certain elements that remind the reader or certainly myself of Jade Goody,(I think I also spotted a reference to Imogen Thomas and Ryan Giggs!) I won't go any further and spoil it for those who wish to purchase the book. I did however think the book was well written, the characters believable and the story interesting, once again it didn't take me long to read, always a good indicator that I enjoyed it.

However don't expect the dark, gritty and dangerous worlds of her previous work.

I would recommend this book as it is a good stand alone story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good read 12 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback
This books best bit was on the back cover. It read like a condensed version of all the glossy photo celebrity magazines out there. She is obviously an avid follower of these magazines. She took a little bit out of each and made a book out of it. A really bad book badly written. A waste of time. I don't follow any of these magazines but I always page through at my hairdresser. Something to talk to her about. Where did the good reviews on the cover come from? Have these people read the book? Do book publishers force good reviews out of newspapers???

I can only think that perhaps Val McDermid was under pressure from her publishers to produce a stand alone book for such a gifted writer to turn out this absolute tripe. Read more
