Same old, Same old .. 19 May 2010

Im kinda new to writing reviews, so bear with me ..

I enjoyed reading The Vampire and the Virgin, though it has the same basic outline of plot as all the others, it is good to see things from the perspective of other characters I have grown to like through out the series.

This book is based on Robby MacKay and his struggle with his feelings of revenge against those that were involved with his torture in the previous book, and his love for Olivia Sotiris, an Empath FBI agent who is dealing with her own problems.

Though I knew what to expect in the plot, the story itself was as enjoyable to me as ever. Robbys sarcastic comments as he got drunk at the Christmas party had me in stitches.

As always there are many characters from previous books involved in the plot and we are introduced to new characters also.

I enjoyed Robbys love story as much as I have the others and cant wait for the next book .. Though I'd really love to read about Connor, Ive always liked his character and think he deserves something a bit different :P

Kerrelyn Sparks has written eight books in the 'Love at Stake' series and I've read all of them. This is perhaps a slight disadvantage when starting this book as it felt like yet another variant of the same story. Many of the heroes and heroines of previous books also appear in this one and it became clear that I was unable to distinguish who is whom and which story relates to which couple - they had all merged into a big muddle of vampire stories. I have little doubt that this one will join that muddle as there wasn't much in it to make it stand out.

What was slightly different was the setting - the island of Patmos in Greece - and I particularly enjoyed the parts of the book set there. Vampire Robby MacKay is on Patmos for some time alone to try to get over his kidnap and torture by the Malcontents. When he meets Olivia Sotiris he falls for her instantly. But Olivia has to leave Patmos in a hurry when her stalker contacts her - but she can't forget Robby. Can Robby and Olivia build a life together and can they discover the identity of the person who is helping Olivia's stalker?

This is a quick read and good for a lazy day on the beach. It was rather lacking in depth - in fact the first book in the series is the only one that I feel really looked into people's feelings and emotions - but as long as you don't get too confused by all the vampire couples, and aren't too irritated by the recurring themes in this series, it's an OK read.

Kerrelyn Sparks - if you ever read this then please please listen to what all the reviewers are saying. Your series is fantastic. The books are witty, well written, fantastic character developement, sexy but not too much, and good story lines, til now......

I have preordered every book in this series and I soooo wanted Robby to have a good one. I know that it is hard to keep writing similar characters in a new way but he didnt come to life and Olivia was a bit of a damp squib too. When I think how you made Darcy come to life or Vanda.......

Ok, I do have a few critizims with some of the others, but not much, they were all four or five stars, which is why I was so disapointed I think.

The vampire traditional male and the innocent but feisty mortal is getting too repetative! This book was almost a bit boring, sorry.

I am sure you have considered this but there are loads of women who think vampires are sexy, could Conner (who we all know would never want to change a mortal again) fall in love with a mortal who actually wants to be a vampire? That would be interesting and new, I'd like it anyway........

I should finish though by saying, thumbs up to the series, the take on vampire culture is brilliant and I recommend them to everyone who likes the genre, start at the beginning with 'how to marry a millionaire vampire'.
