4.0 out of 5 stars At last! 4 Oct 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
As a family we have always loved this wonderful comedy drama, and, although we had it on VHS, could never understand why it had never been issued on DVD. It's bizarre that we can only find this Britsh Television recording in a subtitled version for the Dutch market, and had to source it via the USA, at considerable expense! However, it is still worth every penny, and the Dutch subtitles don't get in the way. We greatly enjoyed it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing 19 April 2009
Format:VHS Tape
After such a successful dramatisation of the Camomile Lawn I was looking forward to seeing the Vacillations Of Poppy Carew, especially considering the cast, Sian Phillips, Joseph Fiennes, Tara Fitzgerald to name but three. Unfortuntely the end result is unpolished and looks very cheap in comparison. Having read the novel beforehand quite a lot of the story is missing and only runs for 1 and a half hours. The Camomile Lawn is a similar size novel and had the benefit of 4 hours to produce a faithful adaptation. Very disapointing considering how good it could have been.

A great addition to our Mary Wesley lets have a nice evening collection and the dutch sub titles turn off without difficulty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tara Fitzgerald Shines Yet Again 16 Mar 2012
This is not one of the strongest adaptations of book to film, and it has received some very negative reviews, but the casting of Tara Fitzgerald was a master stroke. This is one for the followers of her work, some of which is very hard to find. I haven't found a UK DVD release for this film yet and the Dutch version (in English with subtitles), is itself scarce too (available usually from USA), so hence it is inevitably expensive. It is so frustrating that film collectors often find 'gaps' in the catalogue of artists due to restrictive distribution or a lack of the DVD release. So my advice to any who follow Tara's career is, if you see it, get it! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charmingly off-kilter romance... 30 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I caught this film on TV the other day and, for lack of anything better on, watched it. I found myself plesantly surprised and utterly charmed by the whole thing. Odd twists of fate, and bizarre characters bring the countryside to life. It's a wonderfully romantic comedy, with a really grand cast, and if you liked Joseph Fiennes in "Shakespeare in Love," you'll love seeing another side of him as a smitten pig-farmer. Definitely recommended to put a smile on your face.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but rambling 9 April 2003
By Forestgold - Published on Amazon.com
I saw this movie a few times back when WE was still Romance Classics. What a fun movie! It's not particularly mind-blowing or fabulous, but if you are looking for a random and different romance, this is the movie for you. Joseph Fiennes, not much more to say there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Offbeat fun 21 Aug 2010

Not as enjoyable as the Mary Wesley novel on which it is based. But even though the acting was a bit strained I still enjoyed it. Poppy's vacilliations are the result of being dumped by the self involved Edmund and having to arrange her Father's funeral - he wanted a fun one. Her ensuing adventures are rather involved and include a couple of undertakers, a pig farmer, an old trout and a trip to North Africa. Stars Tara Fitzgerald, Charlotte Coleman (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Joseph Fiennes and Siān Phillips. I loved the beautiful Victorian funeral cortege.

This movie was entertaining and the acting was very good. I would recommend this movie. I love Joseph Fiennes and it was good to see him so young in this.
