Product Description

Seventeen year old Mary O'Hara defects to the Soviet Union, thinking that life would be better there, and with the idea that she can help the Soviets in their supposed plans for world domination. A year into it, she discovers that all is not as it seems. Her life will turn into more turmoil once she discovers that they used her to give birth to a son who is meant to be the catalyst that brings down the United States from within. She increasingly fears for herself as her son grows older. Mary's son, Gary, is raised to hate. Hate the United States, its people, and everything they have ever stood for. His mission is to destroy the country from within, allying himself with the worst of America's enemies, and one very powerful and malevolent trillionaire, to accomplish the deed. Once elected to the highest position in the land, Gary puts his lifelong goals to work, and puts the USA onto the path of ultimate destruction. He stops at nothing to rid the USA of his political and spiritual enemies on the right, until a small group on the right decide they've had enough, and they want to stop him. Dale Stewart comes home after serving in the Afghanistan theatre while in the military. The government has issued new orders, creating a Civilian Defense Force, of which Dale will have to serve in. His first orders with his new outfit have him question which side he is on, and each successive mission causes him to doubt this new President and his ideas. When the President orders something that goes against everything Dale believes in, Dale seeks out the new Resistance, and joins them to stop the President. Will they succeed or will the United States be relegated to the dustbin of history?

Odd 10 May 2011
By fran
Format:Kindle Edition
This story had so much potential, but falls very short of that potential. You don't get the chance to care about the characters. And for a book of fiction, when the author uses historical facts and recent famous figures, he is still unable to draw you in. The writing itself is almost child like in its presentation. It really doesn't do what it says on the tin!!

Sorry - I just couldn't put this down - but that was for all the wrong reasons....

It starts off REALLY badly, with one of the most improbable lines that I've ever read - its more befitting of a script from on e of those SyFy movies

<SPOILERS>

"You work for the Soviets?", she asked, wide-eyed.

"Yes, I do. I'm known as Agent Jones. Would you like to come inside?" (the Soviet embassy in New York, outside of which, this conversation is taking place)

The main characters in this book improbably meet some of the highest ranking officials in the former Soviet Union, as well as being involved with the MAJOR "terrorist" leader of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

In the latter half of the book he changes from basically basing everything on real, historical events, to switching over to some alternate universe, when existing events are changed and then WHAM ....

The casual tossing about of Nukes is just SO unbelievable as to be laughable, and as for the climax .... words TRULY fail me!

</SPOILERS>

Sorry folks - don't buy this book (I'm just SO glad, that I got this as a freebie on my Kindle) - it will only add the the authors illusions of self-grandeur - and how he got a BA in English is beyond me

A cold-blooded, Clancy-esk political thriller; The Usurper is sure to entertain. 7 Oct 2010
By Bobbie Crawford McCoy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Usurper starts off slowly, but quickly picks up momentum as the plot thickens and the story unfolds. There are multiple themes in this fictional novel, not the least of which is terrorism, persecution and indoctrinated loyalties; this story painstakingly illustrates a plan for world domination that requires countless willing and blackmailed participants. The main characters are written with the most depth, while supporting characters have very little in the way of a back story. More internal dialog would enhance the reader's ability to connect with the characters and pull them deeper into the story itself. Some structure and grammatical errors, while few and far between, need to be addressed to ensure a smoothly-flowing story that every reader will be able to enjoy.

Despite the minor issues mentioned, The Usurper is a very fast-paced, political thriller that will keep readers on their toes and offer some thought-provoking twists on historic and future possibilities in the political arena.

You'll like it if you're 13 28 Nov 2011

After reading this book, I was shocked to discover the author has a degree in English and is pursuing a Technical Writing degree! Besides the story being poorly written in general, and adults speaking like 13 year olds, the poor punctuation and grammar are highly distracting. And really - it is just a bad book and not worth your time.

Interesting premise, Poor execution 28 Nov 2011
By Matthew D. Ream - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The premise of the story, that the Russians have planted people deep in America to bring about the meltdown of our country, is interesting, but I think I just watched that in "Salt." Meh.

The story was fairly engaging, after a slow start, but the punctuation got worse the further into the book I read. Man, someone needs some help with commas! Was there no copy editor involved?
