Before people get precious about reviewing before hearing I am familiar with most of the songs on this c.d.as I had the vinyl original..
It`s another great forgotten Duffy gem,so many, so many,alas...
Can`t wait to hear In This Twilight again, love that song...
As Oscar said "youth is wasted on the young"but there have been many beautiful moments and this album is one such..................

In 1985 I gave this LP to my girlfriend at the time after only 10 (ish) listens, so that she could tape it. We broke up a week later and she never gave it back.
For some reason out of the blue I was walking through Birmingham (UK) thinking my home town has given the world some special artists over the years. Tin Tin came to mind and I knew I had to find this LP again (not knowing if it was available on CD) This morning on the way to work I listened to it fot the first time in 27 years and knew every word. I cannot fault this CD, every song is timeless (OK a little bit 80's) and it will now be a "stayer" in my car. Get it and enjoy.

The ups and downs is an album I have been after for years, at last I have A copy. The original vinal was worn out by the amount of use it had!! This album does not disapoint. 80's pop at its absolute best.Darkest blues is one of my all time favorite tracks. If you like duffy , you'll love this /

An outstanding album if very much of its time. The tunes are great throughout but what really set this album apart is its cracking musicianship and '80s production. Duffy's vocalising is Bowieesque but far from overstated. Guy Pratt's slap-bass is very much to the fore throughout the album (as it should be) and the whole package is put together with great care for the overall sound. It may not quite have the subtlety and texture of 'Rio' but otherwise it's a must for any '80s fan. Unfortunately my copy got nicked in a break-in and I'm desperate to find another...!
