They may be every parent's nightmare, but the rap all-stars that comprise the 2000 Up in Smoke tour (smoke, as in blunts and chronic--or marijuana, for the uninitiated) are incredibly popular with a surprising cross-section of young music lovers today. This two-hour-plus DVD captures most of one concert by the four rappers who joined together for this tour: Ice Cube, Eminem, Dr Dre, and Snoop Dogg. If you aren't a fan of the music, don't expect this to change your mind, or even to help you understand these rappers' appeal. For the devoted, however, you get heaping doses of four of the hottest acts working, in a show that includes lavish production values, as well as plenty of backstage footage and photographs as extra features. Given the slice-and-dice editing (no shot, it seems, is allowed to last more than two seconds), it's hard to get a fix on them or a true picture of what the show looked like if you happened to be sitting in the audience. --Marshall Fine

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like rap, you'll love it! 7 Mar 2004
By A Customer
This show is simply awesome. The cast reads like a 'who's who' of gangsta rap today, and is not to be missed by any rap or hip hop fan. Ice cube kicks off with 4 songs of his own including 'You Can Do It', and is followed by Eminem who performs songs from his first two albums; Slim Shady LP, and Marhshall Mathers LP. Then it's on to what I would personally consider the main event, lead largely by Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg. This section sees appearances from Xzibit and Nate Dogg amongst others, as phenomenal classic hits such as 'Forgot About Dre, 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted and Next Episode' are performed live. Throughout the DVD there are back stage interviews and footage of the main participants and some other familiar faces from the scene of rap. I cannot emphasize how incredible it is to witness so many of the biggest stars of the music industry under the same roof at the same time. It is a feat which will quite probably never be repeated and one which any true fan should not be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 TITANS OF RAP AND MORE 21 Sep 2006
I bought this dvd as I have been into rap music since 1995.

I just had buy it as my favourite rappers are on this.

There is plenty to enjoy as Ice Cube kicks off the concert, then Eminem continues the assault to the senses and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg are the main event. The only disappointment of this concert was Guilty Conscience was missing.

This also has a 10 minute interview with Dr. Dre and behind the scenes segments of what they got up to.

If you like rap or just have a passing intrest you need to watch the biggest live event in rap history.

On the dvd is:

Hello: Ice Cube

You Can Do it: Ice Cube

N***a You Love To Hate: Ice Cube

Kill You: Eminem

Dead Wrong: Eminem

Under The Influence: Eminem

Marshall Mathers: Eminem

Criminal: Eminem

The Real Slim Shady: Eminem

Next Episode: Dr. Dre (Featuring Snoop Dogg)

(Who Am I?) What's My Name?: Snoop Dogg (Featuring Dr. Dre)

Ain't Nuthin' But A "G" Thang: Dr. Dre (Featuring Snoop Dogg)

B***h Please: Snoop Dogg (Featuring Xzibit & Nate Dogg)

What's The Difference: Dr. Dre (Featuring Eminem & Xzibit)

Forgot About Dre: Dr. Dre (Featuring Eminem)

California Love/Gangsta Party (Live Performance by Snoop Dogg - Track vocals By 2Pac)

F**k You: Dr. Dr (Featuring Devon The Dude & Snoop Dogg)

Let Me Ride: Dr. Dre

Still D.R.E.: Dr. Dre (Featuring Snoop Dogg)

All in all a brilliant concert that should be seen by rap fans or music fans in genral.

This is a great purchase, from the very first song "hello" by ice cube, you will love every second of this fantastic DVD. Great behind the scenes stuff with Xzibit stealing the show with his chronic filled antics and great performences all around. You will be treated to the best rap show on earth for very few of your english pounds. (i hope they come over here in 2001)

A great video which captures the atmosphere of one of the most anticipated tours of the decade. Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Eminem are all here demonstrating why they are simply the best rappers ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest hip-hop tour ever... probably 13 Feb 2004
I have always thought that the up in smoke tour (named after the cheech and chong film) just shows how big dr dre really is. I mean we are talking about a producer and an MC going on tour with a huge line up of support acts WHO CAN ALL HEADLINE SELL OUT GIGS!
Thats right Dre's tour had Ice cube and west side connection as the warm up act. To me this defys belief that an artist as huge as ice cube can only makes it as warm up... still with the aid of westside connection he procedes to tear it up i would of paid good money just to see ice cube tearing it up.
The next support act is eminem and man he rips up the crowd. Bare in mind please that this tour took place BEFORE eminems recent work so fans not familliar with his early work might not get what they expect from this. Em also has his usual tag alongs in the form of D12.
Then we get to the main act dre himself. He kicks of his set with a five minute short film with him and snoop going in search of some chronic which leads them to a off license shop which ultimatly leads to a shoot out. Snoop stays on stage for most of this act and at one point rides around stage in an old bike which he nicks of xzibet who originaly brings it onto stage. Both eminem and Ice cube join in at some points to perform their colaberations with dre.
inbetween sets we see aditional footage of the show in the form of what happens behind the scenes so expect to see the stars shooting hoops vast amounts of chronic being smoked (well i have mentioned that snoops there) the warm up comedian getting the crowd going, crowd interviews...and more.
This concert footage is amazing for the amount of footage you get and is worth the purchase if you have any interest in any of the artists mentioned. This is a fantastic buy and buy it you should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encore! 24 Sep 2003
Once you've sat through the lyrical ferosity of Eminem, the critic bating of Ice Cube and the G-Funk classics and Snoop Dogg and Dre, you want to rewind it and experience it all over again. Helped by guest appearances from the likes of MC Ren, Mack 10, WC, Xzibit, Nate Dogg and D12, The Up In Smoke tour is every gangsta rap fans favourite fantasy. Snoop and Dre steal the show by running through their back-catologue of classic hits, and watching the likes of "Who Am I", performed live make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
