Pleased to say that this is everything I hoped it would be. Aereogramme were one of the best Scottish bands of the last 20 years but never achieved the recognition they deserved. It remains to be seen whether this latest guise will see Craig and Iain reach any level of commercial success but you have to admire their perserverence. Musically, this continues the Aereogramme trajectory, further developing the sweeping sounds of My Heart Has A Wish You Would Not Go while maintaining a brooding sense of menace. Craig is still a deeply underrated singer to, here's wishing them the best, eh?

Aereogramme was a fantastic band, The Unwinding Hours is the fantastic continuation of this tradition. The songs are a little slower than Aereogramme's but nevertheless great songs.

After Aereogramme's brilliant swansong "My Heart Has a Wish That You Would Not Go", Craig B and Iain Cooke follow up with "the Unwinding Hours". In places it seems like a change in direction, in others it seems more like a change of pace. The visceral bits of the earlier Aereogramme material are all but erased, but it couldn't be described as an acoustic album. For one thing, acoustic albums struggle to sound this big. The sheer size and depth of some of the dynamic bits on the album make me think of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and yes, Aerogramme.
For fans of big atmospheric interesting beautiful music, and people who aren't fans of big atmospheric interesting beautiful music yet.
