Product Description

Book 3 of the Shader series (Epic Fantasy)

Shader has failed and Sektis Gandaw now holds all the pieces of the Statue of Eingana. Despair hangs like a pall over the battered armies of Sahul and Aeterna. It’s now just a matter of time …

A sliver of hope comes in the form of Shadrak the Unseen, who has the means to travel to the source of the coming cataclysm, the black mountain at the heart of the Dead Lands on Aethir.

But Shader, Shadrak, and Rhiannon discover that Aethir brings a new set of challenges: the Sour Marsh—an oozing malignancy from the nightmare realm of Qlippoth; an arrogant senate that seeks to appease rather than fight; and a volatile secret at the heart of the ravine city of Arx Gravis: a dwarf with no name who could prove the most stalwart of allies… or the deadliest of foes.

Old love has turned sour and regrets run deep. Shader is sick of killing, but can see no other way. Rhiannon’s last defense against all she has lost is a self-destructive rage; and Shadrak’s niggling conscience is causing him more trouble than he needs. Loyalties are called into question, yet all three must bury their differences if they are to find a way into Sektis Gandaw’s impregnable base and prevent the Unweaving of all things.

Being able to consistently write good books, where the quality of each successive book is improved upon, is the difference between a good writer and an excellent one. There is no doubt here that Mr. Prior is an excellent author and outstanding storyteller.

This book has wonderful pacing, really good descriptive passages, and outstanding character build-up. It also has some very nice twists and turns. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy reading about a rollicking good adventure.
The only thing I don’t like is that I have to wait for Mr. Prior to finish writing the next chapter of this amazing journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'Shader' series continues... fantasy/adventure at its best... 5 Stars 20 Mar 2014
By R. Nicholson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
"The Unweaving" is the third book in the "Shader" fantasy/adventure series by author D. P. Prior. More specifically it's the last book in the first trilogy. There is a second trilogy to begin with book 4, "The Archon's Assassin". This Kindle e-book was approximately 409 printed pages and sold for $4.99 at the time of writing this review.

Please Note: I was actively involved in Beta reading this novel giving my subjective opinions and feedback to the author.

General theme <spoilers>

This novel covers a period of time that starts just after the loss at the battle of Homestead and proceeds to follow Shader and his motley crew as they try to prevent Sektis Gandaw from initializing the 'unweaving', a process that will unravel the universe and set creation back to square one; with the idea of forming a brand new beginning.

Some thoughts on "The Unweaving"...

1.) great story telling (and editing) featuring prose associated with a profession writer.

2.) epic quests involving huge treks across dangerous and unknown territories.

3.a) some terrific encounters and battles... graphically described.
3.b) however, this is not just an action driven story as there are some truly intriguing characters fleshed out in this work.

4.) there are some unique and ingenious horrors, usually appearing when least expected.

5.) maps... all books now include a comprehensive map(s) detailing the territories involved.

5.) and finally, a sprinkling of humor throughout this novel that will give readers many smiles and probably several laugh-out-loud moments. A technique used to perfection to counter balance some of the other more graphic occurrences found in this book.

Conclusion:

A very well written, action packed, fantasy adventure. Loved it.

As it is... 5 Stars.

P.S.
If you love fantasy/adventures don't pass up the opportunity to have a look into what these books are all about. I'd advise anyone just starting to begin with either the first book in the "Shader" or "The Nameless Dwarf" series. Amazon.com allows you to download a sample to see what you think... a risk free opportunity to see what D.P. Prior and his characters are all about. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
