Just finished this book and will not write too much as I dont want to give out any spoilers.
I really enjoyed reading this book even though I found it difficult to get into at the beginning.
Good sci fi feel to this book and I really grew to like the family.
I am hoping there is a sequel out there as I have a feeling their abilities still have room to grow

4.0 out of 5 stars Action, adventure and science fiction 11 Nov 2010
By Leslie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Two young nurses working at a clinic overhear a plot to murder them and the five newborn babies they are caring for. They flee into the night taking the infants with them to safety. Fourteen months earlier FBI Agents investigating a spree of crime scenes in which five babies are always among the casualties close in on a suspect only to watch him get away. Moments later there is an explosion of smoke and flames and more dead bodies. A brilliant but evil scientist has been conducting genetic experiments and things have been going horribly wrong.

We learn all of this in the first few pages. I enjoy a book that starts out fast and drops the reader right into the middle of a thrilling adventure. As I was reading the first few chapters I was already asking myself questions: what was happening, who was doing this, how would they resolve this? I was hooked.

Janet, one of the nurses, knows a place they can take the babies where no one will find them. Her uncle, Leigh, has a ranch in Oklahoma with a cabin where they can stay. This is a difficult decision for Janet as she and her uncle have not communicated in years and there was an unpleasant scene when they last spoke. Leigh, however, is a devout Christian and is more than willing to forgive, provide shelter and offer his help.

As they settle in and begin caring for the infants it quickly becomes apparent that these are not normal children. They are growing rapidly and look and act twice their age. As the years pass they manage to stay hidden and out of view of the public. Each of the children have begun to display impossible superhuman abilities. Soon it proves difficult to hide them from the authorities and more importantly from the bad guys they escaped from years ago. They have become a family now and protecting the children and each other is a priority.

This is a blend of action, adventure and science fiction with a Christian theme. Don't run off it you don't read Christian books. The religion is subtle; the author does not hit you over the head with it or preach at you. Through a series of events in her past Janet has lost her faith. The children and her uncle help her rediscover what she has lost. This theme is essential to her character's development and to understanding the children and their fight for good against evil.

This is part one of a trilogy. The ending left me wanting for more while at the same time resolving enough of the story in book one to keep me happy. I recommend The Unwanted to readers of all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian X-Men 2 July 2010
By Alison Pickrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
For anyone at any age who appreciates The Fantastic Four or the X-Men: This is the book for you. In this first book of The Unwanted Trilogy, Mr. Carter introduces us to five infants who have been genetically altered in a secret government project that is drawn so realistically, you could believe it is actually happening. These babies are smuggled away and kept in hiding by a devout Christian who introduces them to prayer and discipleship as they grow up to possess super powers that could have ended up in the wrong hands. As they grow, we the readers see the physically and mentally painful process they each undergo as they develop and learn to use these super powers. The evil ones do find their hiding place and the clash between good and evil begins. I look forward to Book Two in this very innovative trilogy. Go Daniel Carter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Block Buster Movie Potential Here! 14 Dec 2010
By Chase von - Published on Amazon.com

Something a friend of mine, Ron Brand, Boxing Manager for Hollie (Hot Stuff) Dunaway, who happens to be a four time World Champion --- Shared with me recently comes to mind in regards to this book. And that was something to the affect of --- "You know Chase, seems like since time began, people have been writing love songs --- You would think by now it would all have already been covered but it still goes on, and will continue to go on and great love songs will continue to be written."

And he's right...

A story about people with "Super Powers" isn't something that is all that unique. And I'm also sure you won't be able to find anyone, regardless if they dig comic books or not, that isn't aware of Superman.

So what author, Daniel L. Carter is writing about isn't something I haven't heard of before but I will say this ---

"The Unwanted" Rocks!

It grabbed me from the very beginning and had me guessing what would happen next and before I knew it, I was hooked!

As other's have noted, it is an almost believable story in the current age we live in, but I also want to say the characters development makes you care about what is going to happen to... (The Good One's That is)... next.

I also have to say this is enjoyable for both Young Adults and Adults and I can easily see this becoming a Block Buster Movie with sequels in a similar vein of "Harry Potter" or "Twilight" if those that produce it stay true to the author's character descriptions.

That's what makes this book by the way. These just aren't special individuals, they are individuals that are dealing with learning that they are different, so even though it is about children morphing into powerful beings, their "Humanity" is also well defined and all of the other characters have back stories that flesh out why they are, the way they are.

And as mentioned in previous reviews here which I've taken the time to read, it does deal with faith in God, but it isn't overly done and even an atheist would still enjoy the read in my humble opinion.

I'm looking forward to reading the next installment by this gifted author and highly recommend this to adults and young adults --- Nor would I be surprised if this becomes a movie or series on television.

Great Read!

With Respects,

Chase Von
