More About the Author

Alex is the Bram Stoker, Anthony, and Black Quill award-nominated and Thriller award-winning author of the Thriller Award-nominated HUNTRESS MOON crime series (HUNTRESS MOON, BLOOD MOON, COLD MOON), the supernatural thrillers, THE HARROWING, THE PRICE, THE UNSEEN, BOOK OF SHADOWS, THE SHIFTERS, and THE SPACE BETWEEN, and the non-fiction workbooks SCREENWRITING TRICKS FOR AUTHORS and WRITING LOVE, based on her internationally acclaimed workshops and blog.

As a screenwriter Alex has sold original suspense and thriller scripts and adapted novels for numerous Hollywood studios. She has served on the Board of Directors of the WGA, west (the screenwriters' union) and the Board of the Mystery Writers of America. She is a California native and a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, where she majored in theater and minored in everything Berkeley has a reputation for. She now splits her time between Los Angeles and Scotland, where she lives with the Scottish noir author Craig Robertson. In her spare time (!) she performs with Heather Graham's all-author Slush Pile Players, and dances like a fiend. She is also very active on Facebook. But not an addict. No, seriously, it's under control.

Product Description

Review

'Sokoloff keeps her story enticingly ambiguous, never clarifying until the climax whether the unfolding weirdness might be the result of the investigators' psychic sensitivities or the mischievous handiwork of a human villain'--Publishers Weekly

'[A]spine-tingling story that has every indication of becoming a horror classic' --Romantic Times

'A masterful blend of fascinating fact and chilling fiction... an unsettling and highly entertaining horror/thriller read'--Bookbitch.com

'Alexandra Sokoloff blends fact and fiction into a creepy tale of the paranormal. THE UNSEEN will entertain fans of ghost stories, as well as suspense novels, and could quite likely have believers checking under the bed and turning on a night light'--Las Vegas Review Journal

'Intriguing characters, atmosphere and masterful writing allow the expected eerie elements to fall into the background. The novel will appeal to lovers of traditional horror but who want to read something a bit deeper' --Fear Zone

'Sokoloff has provided a new and interesting twist to the genre, one that will stay with the reader long after the book has been read'--Bookreporter.com

'This foray into the unknown makes for a great, scary story the likes of which rivals those of Stephen King'--Charlotte Examiner

'Sokoloff shines, and deserves kudos for her crisp, direct style, excellent characterization' --Horror World

I was invited to read this book - something I'd not usually look at - through a facebook promotion.

I enjoyed many aspects of this book - it was scary, it was very peculiar, the interaction was usually fast paced, the ending wasn't clear.

Some aspects jarred with me, the long legs, the beautiful academics, the fast movement to a great new job. some other aspects really came home to me - the fear the jealousy etc.

This hasn't turned me into a paranormal reader, but happy to try more of the genre.

The plot was interesting; based LOOSELY on real parapsychology research. The characters were well developed although not very likable. Based on this book, I will now be ordering other books written by this author.

This is a definite must-read if you love ghost fiction and haunted mansions!
It is really slow to get into at first but once you get past that it is amazing. I found it scary and creepy, especially reading in a house on my own, or in bed! It's a classic haunted house/ghost hunter story with bumping and banging in a house with a history of murder and insanity and ghost hunting equiptment going wild.
This is the first book i have read by Alexandra Sokoloff and if her other books are as good as this, i cant wait to read them. I reccomend this book and I hope Alexandra decides to do a follow up!

I enjoyed this book. The pace is steady and there are a few really creepy moments which almost had me sleeping with the light on. Please authors can we have less Mills and Boon characters-stereotypical handsome lead man etc. Apart from that and some rather irritating chick lit stuff like 'She lifted her chin' and met his gaze ....she tucked a strand of hair.....you know what I mean...It was an enjoyable spooky read.

What a disappointing read! The action only starts about 3/4s of the way through and even then it's nothing original; typical ghostly goings on that you would find in any other cheap horror story. But, what I found most unpleasant about it was the terrible stereotypes about mental health. I could hardly believe my eyes when she writes about the smell of schizophrenia?! What a complete load of nonsense! And, let's face it, books like this is why there's so much fear about mental health issues. I don't want to get on my soap box too much but Alexander Sokoloff really needs to get in the real world! I suggest avoiding this book and reading some decent horror, like James Herbert, instead.
