technically, this book is really just the random thoughts of this one guy. sure, there's a "plot" involving the downed pilot, Palinurus, but really, it's not the plot that you'll be fixated on. This guy is smart. And when i say smart, i mean, he puts all our mutual thoughts together in the prettiest way. It's not an optimistic book, but it's good to know that there are people out there who feel the same way, for example, he says that Adam's expulsion from the garden of Eden, is not as some would have it, the fall of man. In fact, it comes closer to the "fall of God". The stuff in this book may seem like the ramblings of a bitter man, but it's actually enlightening. There are so many good lines and quotes in here (some in french) that's worth memorizing and reciting. I love this book to death, and it's the one book i'll be carrying around with me in my bag for the rest of my reading days.
